  1. ““What he said is wrong, and the way he treats women is wrong, but it’s not wrong enough for me to not vote for him.” Thanks, cowards.”

So she wants to choose “the other evil”? Or not vote? Yeah, that’ll make a HUGE difference. Since when has politics been about character? In my much younger (before I wised up) Republican days, I’d have labeled her RINO as well. I see a lot of those types in my state-perpetually the minority loosing party, almost the same as the democrats in political outlook; hungry for power and influence, telling Republicans that they should be re-elected because they brought home a token bit of cash from the state’s massive tax increase bill.Report

    1. She’s resigning. She’s put a ton of effort into a ton of different things, and she’s out of there.
Her impact was more than just one vote, too. She was an organizer, someone who was getting stuff done. (So, say, her impact was ten votes, not just one).

Politics is about character, and wits, and good common sense. If you elect people who are anti-horsetrading, well, then when they drive the train off the cliff you get what you voted for.Report

      1. Here’s a tip….trains been heading towards the cliff for decades, and speeding up. Choose the candidate that run the train at 90 mph or 120. Destination isn’t changing. Why worry.

          1. Ah yes, those were the days. They days when “is” was undefined.

Even the Fed is wondering if they can continue to inflate to generate more stimulus when it the marginal returns are almost zero now.Report

    1. Yeah, pretty much. The one person who starts to bitch about conservatives being cowards.
Throw it into the liberal echo chamber, and you get this.

You see this all the time on dailykos — all the republicans who couldn’t stand being republican anymore.Report

              1. If you emphasize the society above all, you’re still concerned about:

Spending limited police resources on victimless crimes

Turning otherwise law-abiding citizens into criminals

Creating a revenue source for criminal organizations

Giving up the tax revenue legalization would provide

Marijuana being unregulated, and thus highly available to minorsReport

              2. This doesn’t seem quite right. The underlying motive [1] for a lot of socially conservative stands seems to have more to do with a desire to see society lay out clear moral dictates and have the state recognize those dictates, regardless of whether it actually reduces the immoral behavior in question. It’s almost a deontology vs. consequentialism kind of thing.

  2. Jaybird:
If you emphasize the individual above all, marijuana legalization is the only moral course.

If you emphasize the society above all, marijuana legalization is insane.

    Bravo & well stated.Report
