Saturday Morning Gaming: Smack Dab in the Middle of the Steam Autumn Sale
It’s time, once again, for the Steam Autumn Sale!
This isn’t usually the best place to get the games that came out last month (though Gotham Knights *IS* available for 40% off), but it’s absolutely the best place to finally pick up the games that you’ve been saying “you know… I should get that…” for the last three or four years.
Like, I talked about the Batman Arkham Collection a few weeks back. If you were intrigued at all, know that you can get the collection of the three official games with all the DLC included… that’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, and Batman: Arkham Knight (with the Season Pass included) and get the whole kit and caboodle for NINE BUCKS.
If you’ve been idly thinking “I should maybe check those games out”, then this is a great way to do so for the cost of two grande Mocha Frappuccinos.
If you like the way the gameplay was on those games but prefer stories set in the Lord of the Rings, get the Shadow Bundle (Shadow of War and Shadow of Mordor) for a mere $10.49. The story for those games is out of this world, the combat is fun, and the Nemesis System is so very good that I’m shocked that not a single other game has used it (in a nutshell, if a no-name grunt happens to kill you, he then gets a name, special powers, and becomes a thorn in your side… it’s frustrating until you finally beat him and then it’s satisfying in a way that will remind you why you play video games in the first place).
If you’re more into strategy than action RPGs, then know that Civilization VI is on sale for 90% off. That’s only six bucks!
Prefer an FPS? Battlefield V is on sale for V bucks.
And if you don’t like the games where people are fighting or shooting or conquering or any of that, you want something TRULY visceral… well, Uno is 60% off. Get it for quatro. Beware, though. If you get into the group chats, you’re going to encounter some seriously offensive stuff.
There are hours and hours of games up there for ~10 bucks or less and I didn’t even talk about the Grand Theft Autos, the Hitmans, or the Witchers that are also on deep, deep discount this week.
So… what are you playing?
I did a little bit of shopping from the Steam Sale, but I mostly kept it under control. I got MechWarrior 5:Mercenaries and Battletech, though I haven’t gotten much time with either yet. My wife and I also got Monster Hunter: Rise, which we had been playing together on the Switch, but we decided to start up again on the Steam Deck (which really puts the Switch to shame).
She also got Pokemon: Violet (not from the sale), but I did not get Scarlet to play alongside her. I have too many games going on, and it’s still pretty pricey since it just released.Report
I picked up Pentiment, Vampire Survivors, and Defend the Rook.
And, of course, I’m still locked into Ragnarok.Report
I’d like to hear what you think about the first two. Pentiment sounds interesting, and Vampire Survivor was a lot of fun (though I feel like I accomplished everything I wanted with it, and I doubt I will get back to it).Report
I’ve played only the Prologue to Pentiment but I know that I already love the game.
It’s from Obsidian so I have already braced myself for crashes but I already know that I’m going to play it (and maybe replay it?).
The text is scratched into your text box as if written by a quill and, for a moment, the ink is shiny before it dries. I haven’t interacted with anybody except for conversations in a dream but… dang. I’m already looking forward to beating Ragnarok so I can spend some serious time with this one.Report
The complete Oxygen Not Included with the new Spaced Out DLC is 25% off…but that’s still 29 bucks. Really fun game, thoughReport
