Weekend Plans Post: Finally Autumn
We’ve finally had the big break in the weather where we went from having all of the windows wiiiiide open for the breeze to “what the heck! Close that window over!” The coming week is going to be dancing around in the 70’s but, and here’s the point, it’s going to drop into the 60’s a handful of times instead of leaping up into the 80’s.
We even had to put one of the fuzzy blankets on the foot of the bed last night. So, yes, we’re in autumn. FINALLY.
Now we get to start thinking about the thick long-sleeved shirts instead of the thinner ones.
Speaking of entering autumn, Tiger had his canines removed last week. One broke off and the root was still in there and that was affecting his mood and the vet checked and said “you know what? Let’s just get all of them” and so we did the great betrayal of putting him in the carrier, putting him in the car, and driving him to a strange place that had dogs in it. We picked him up six hours later and, ZOOM, under the bed.
The next day when I went off to work, he came out and sat in Maribou’s lap and mewed at her about all of the stuff that *I* did yesterday. When I got home, ZOOOM, under the bed. I went to the basement to do some work and video gaming and he came back out and complained at her some more and, as soon as he heard me on the stairs, ZOOOOM, under the bed.
So he has engaged in full transference. Mommy had nothing to do with his kidnapping and extraction. It was all that mean, mean man in the basement.
Over the next five days or so, he got a little bit braver. He’d sit on the landing and watch me do my morning interactions in the kitchen. He’d sit in the doorway to the library and give me a death stare as I changed clothing for work or for the evening. Sometimes he is even willing to stand on the opposite side of the front room and see that I have put down wetfood… but he will wait until I go downstairs lest I scoop him up again and do goodness knows what. The second I’m out of sight? Happy cat, flirting with mommy, enjoying food, and enjoying not having a headache.
So, this weekend will be a further reestablishment of trust, a game night, and the usual litany of errands and chores.
So… whats on your docket?

Had to bust out the Comfort Colors a bit early this year. It’s mid-morning on Friday and it’s only in the mid 50s here in Chicago.
Off to the farm for the annual reunion. I’ll shoot out to the cemetery and say hi to the wife, too. I love that little country cemetery. It’s so peaceful.Report
Fall came in over night. Like it was still summer yesterday, 80 degrees and still a bit humid, this morning it was breezy and the low 50s. I am very much a summer person and am always sad about the change to fall, even though fall still has a lot to like about it.
As for me yesterday was my son’s 5th birthday, but the party is tomorrow. I gave him his gift, which is his first guitar. He was pumped and hopefully it stops him from messing around with my cherished Takamine. Sunday we will do what has become a semi-family tradition for his bday weekend and go to the DC zoo. Should be an all around good time.Report
Yup, I think three days ago was a record high, and last night was a record low.Report
Yea, it was wild. I still had tomatoes ripening earlier this week, but pretty sure that’s over with.Report
still high summer here 🙁
Supposed to be 98 F out tomorrow. We might get a “cool down” next week to 85 (that is not, in this displaced Northerner’s book, a “cool down”) but still no rain – we are in a terrible drought and I”m looking nervously at my trees hoping they survive it.
I wish it felt like fall. I seem to tolerate the heat less now than I did in July, when it was worse. I go over to retrieve a couple tubs from the storage unit (I am slowly bringing my craft supplies back home) and I am just sweaty and wiped out for half an hour after doing it.
I also want it to feel like a good time to make soup and other foods like that; am getting tired of cold food “so I don’t heat up the house”Report
After a brief hiatus, the Sunday Afternoon Jog has returned.
I don’t know how many people were eating edibles in the houses I ran past but, lemme tell ya, it’s like every fifth one was burning the wisdom weed.Report
