Weekend Plans Post: Back and Batchin’ It
The plane landed and, a minute later, I got a text from Maribou saying that her plane was boarding. She was going to be seated right around the time that mine finished taxiing to the gate.
So we missed each other at the airport by *THAT* much. She sent a picture of the car in short-term parking, I found it, and paid $6 to get out of the lot.
Got home, the cats said “oh, it’s you… where’s the nice one?” and things were more or less back to normal after a *WONDERFUL* trip out to see the folks at Leaguefest.
It was great to see everybody, of course. I was seeing several friends for the second or third time and several friends for the first time. Everybody looks exactly like you’d think. It was great to sit with everybody, laugh with everybody, walk around the mall in Warshington DC with everybody, drink wine with everybody, and just hang in person again. Even if just for a couple of days.
I can’t wait for the next one!
This weekend will be the one that is relatively empty. Catch up on laundry, chores, and whatnot. Put the AC away for the season and replace the vent with the screens and just open the windows wide. (Hrm. I will miss the white noise… move the box fan into the bedroom for a bit, maybe.)
Catch up on a handful of games, let the blisters on my feet heal up, and prepare for a full week of crazy after everybody who took this whole week off gets back to normal as well.
And it’s WEIRD not having Maribou around. It used to be fun for about a week, then fun until the first Sunday, then fun for just a day or two, then… well, now it just sucks. Everything is not yet back to normalish.
Ah, well. At least there’s the normalcy of doing a Costco run. Hey, maybe I’ll bake up some of that pepper bacon she’s allergic to. I can’t get away with that when she’s here, after all.
So… what’s on your docket?

While everybody was enjoying Leaguefest (maybe one year I’ll make it), my wife and I were tearing out carpet, moving furniture, and putting down laminate. We got the job done. It was an experience. Though both of us were tired and aggravated by the end of it (my legs are still sore), there was never any conflict between the two of us. I really think I found the right one this time.
This weekend is another boardgame meetup. I am planning to introduce the group to my favorite game, Cthulhu Wars, which I have not been able to play since the world shut down. I also want to watch WWE’s Clash at the Castle PPV that I missed last weekend, and the yard needs to get mowed. I didn’t get to it last weekend, and it seems we have had ideal grass growing weather, so that will not be fun.
And tonight, my wife and I will enjoy cocktails while watching the recent Cats movie accompanied by Rifftrax commentary.Report
I watched Clash at the Castle and, no spoilers, I said “Huh, that was really good!” multiple times. Like more often than I thought I would.
There was a six-person match in there. I *HATE* six-person matches. AND EVEN THE SIX-PERSON MATCH WAS GOOD.Report
I am taking this weekend OFF. I have very little I need to do. I plan to go to Sherman to do “big” grocery shopping (going to a store with better selection and items I cannot get locally). I might stop off in Denison first and visit a few of the small specialty stores (a nice quilt shop, a hipsterish store that sells soap and candles and houseplants, an antique shop).
I also want to try to get back into handquilting after realizing I now have space in my newly-cleaned and reorganized sewing room to set my big PVC pipe quilting frame back up. I have a vintage quilt top (probably fabrics from the 1930s or 40s; bought the top for $35 some 15 years ago) that I started quilting and never finished, and I have a top I made that I really would rather hand quilt than have longarmed, so maybe I push myself back into handquilting more this fall after not having done it….really at all during the whole pandemic.Report
I cannot believe how much bandwidth the pandemic took up for day to day stuff. Some of my bosses were saying that this would be a great time to study for various certs with all of our extra time and, I admit, while I had extra time, I had a *LOT* more overhead than I was used to.
Maybe that’ll get easier in the next few months.Report
I don’t know if my ability to work concentratedly on things is ever coming back. It’s like the pandemic either gave me ADHD, or it removed the ability I had to cope with an underlying ADHD. I’ve also become a LOT more forgetful, like, I will set something down and it will be as if it disappeared into another dimension.
That’s why I was irritated by all the tweets about “you know what Shakespeare did during a plague? He wrote “King Lear” and you know what Newton did? He invented the Calculus”Report
