Re the last one… The putter is the only club where every shot has to get not just the direction, but the distance correct. Once you reach a certain level of skill, half of the strokes taken in a round will be taken with a putter. The difference between first and fifth in million-dollar tournaments is often putts that miss by a total of two or three inches.
The summer I spent making my beer money by hustling doctors and dentists on the golf course on Wednesday afternoons, and wanted to miss a shot, putts were the ones to miss. A putt that (intentionally) misses by a foot looks entirely normal — “I thought it would break more than that.”Report
