I always thought those old-timey full-body bathing suits were for modesty’s sake, but maybe they were used to prevent sunburn before effective sunscreen was available?Report
That doesn’t explain the portion of my life when skimpy swim attire was a thing and there was no sunscreen, only suntan lotions that didn’t block UV at all. Or the only sunscreen available was opaque zinc oxide creams, famously used on lifeguards’ noses.Report
