For the first time in 8 years, Bob Dylan has released new music. “Murder Most Foul” is a 17-minute epic that starts as a graphic retelling of the Kennedy assassination, but then turns into a sprawling take on culture in the Sixties and beyond.
Seventeen minutes isn’t a song, it’s a podcast.Report
It didn’t used to be…Report
I can’t tell if your implication is that songs used to be this long in the past, or that seventeen minutes is too short for a proper podcast.Report
I’m not a podcast kinda guy. It’s people, like, talking? Dude. I can do that at home.
It’s more that the best songs used to take a while. And they didn’t assume that you might have to go elsewhere. If you had to go elsewhere, maybe that’s where you should listen to the album. If you were listening to it here?
SETTLE IN. Not for my benefit. For yours.
And here’s where I’ll say “Seriously. Listen to Thick as a Brick.”Report
Podcasts are for mediocre dudes to talk about subjects that no one cares to listen to. When Dylan speaks, the world listens.Report
Dylan’s latest release was basically a spoken word podcast, it was so long….Report
I see what you mean, but to me it is more a song-poem with a lot more to unpack than, say, something you hear on most podcasts. Podcasts aren’t art in my opinion, they are spoken blog posts.Report
Bob Dylan is the second most overrated thing to come out of the sixties.
Right after the Beatles.Report
You must be wild at parties.Report
Dude, those are the two of the greatest mood killers in the catalog. Put some Stiff Little Fingers or The El Michels Affair on, get that room hopping!
Dylan and the Beatles are for 10 guys sitting aroung discussing chord progressions, and are there going to be any ladies showing up later? Maybe putting Steely Dan on will set the right mood…
