If I’m reading the date right, this would have been 6 years after Ford introduced the $5/day wage, so a million dollars back then would have been over 600 years of workman’s wages. At 5% interest, a million dollars would have yielded an income of $136 per day indefinitely.
Which is to say, it’s quite nice to have a million dollars now, but back then it would have made you fabulously wealthy. The Wikipedia says Briggs himself died leaving a $90,000 estate.Report
