On “Apalachee Killer’s Father Now Charged”
I’m not sure how that applies.
"
There are a lot more bad things that can happen with an unsecured firearm. I agree that school massacres are a vanishingly small percentage of these.
"
I’m nowhere near an expert on insurance, but it seems to me that having a known, unremediated hazard, like an unsecured firearm, in your house might make it uninsurable.
"
It ought to be a homeowner's insurance thing.
On “Open Mic for the week of 9/2/2024”
Every thread on Reddit where the guy wants to open the marriage up ends up with him regretting it and her getting tons of new partners.

I'm amazed it's that high. Got a source?
On “A Public Course on a Sunday Morning”
This brings to mind the days of my youth, before the Cook County Forest Preserve golf courses had a reservation system. My brother and I would go to the course, pay our greens fee, and wait a couple of hours for our number to be called.
On “College Football, and I Didn’t Know You Could Do That With The Game Clock”
"Since the game was already a 52-0 blowout after two quarters, they agreed to shorten the third and fourth quarters to ten minutes each. I didn’t know you could do that."
I read 5 minutes each, for a total of 10. What even is the point of scheduling an opponent like that? If you want to give them money, just cut a check, and play a real team.

"We’ve got, you know, armadillos in our trousers. I mean it’s really quite frightening.”
On “Weekend Plans Post: The MRI”
High school football season starts Friday here in IL, and that means I'll be starting my 33rd (and probably last) season as an official. The crew is hoping to get a championship assignment Thanksgiving weekend, so we have a lot riding on our performance. As always, the goal is to throw no flags all season (and, to stay with the theme, avoid an injury necessitating an MRI).
Other than that, I have jack squat planned. Have a great long weekend, all.

I mean, you're not wrong.

"...Zionism and Israel that presents Zionism as a form of settler-colonialism rather than as Jewish self-determination."
I made this point in an earlier discussion thread, but I think at this point Zionism doesn't really, IMHO, serve any purpose. If you want to move to Israel, it's just emigration. Taking over land that doesn't really belong to you is rightfully called colonialism.

I'm gonna guess every AG has had a Playboy subscription. ;-)
Seriously, however, it looks like it's been used to prosecute kiddie porn cases. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comstock_Act_of_1873#Contemporary_enforcement

There are plenty of laws on the books that are never enforced. Having something like this lurking around, waiting for to be used for selective prosecution, is why people have disdain for government.
On “Complicated Starbucks Orders Is A Language I Don’t Speak None To Good”
I was over visiting my best man in Dundee and we drove up the coast to do some sightseeing and we ended up in Stonehaven for lunch. We went to The Bay for fish and chips and it was fantastic. A selection of fish and how you wanted it breaded, which I'd never seen before. If you get back, I highly recommend it.
On “The DNC Republicans”
Behold the vast powers of the American vice-president!
On “Why on Earth Would Trump Plan This Speech At This Location At This Time”
Right? Always known for its sane Taft Republicans, Ohio has now gone completely bonkers.

I'm ready!
On “Open Mic for the week of 8/19/2024”
I guess the Republicans ought not implement Project 2025, which they have totally disavowed, if they get elected.

We have to understand where the bread is buttered.
On “Is Harris Limiting Press Access Helping Her?”
I don't know enough to speak to the FDR contention. Trump, rightly, shut it down. Biden, of course, woke it back up, but that was going to happen under any president. Inflation, after a period of depressed demand, is always going to happen. Look at the inflation rate for 1946.
The turning of an aircraft carrier analogy remains true for the American economy, IMO.
"
Substitute different events and stats and you have the campaign of every presidential candidate of the incumbent party since John Adams. The economy of a nation, even a small one, is too big to be changed quickly by any one man's policies.

Looks like they're trying to right this injustice to their movement:

Anyone I've ever known who's worked in a restaurant is a fairly lavish tipper and really forgiving of less than good service.
