I'm old enough to remember the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
If politicians don't control the economy (and you're largely correct), maybe don't claim to control the economy and complain when people blame you for not fixing what you promised to fix. Especially when your fix for inflation is spending more money.
Outside of dem voter fever dreamers who think 98% of the Republican party is MAGA, I'm not sure anyone has any idea how large the MAGA contingent really is. I guess we shall see soon enough when the Primary season begins, state by state.
Astute analysis, not to mention superb photo selection.
I think things have a chance to play out differently than in 2016. Unlike the previous Florida governor who the GOP tried to anoint as nominee (Jeb!), Desantis has the capacity to punch the bully in the mouth. I don't anticipate him getting steamrolled like the candidates in that cycle. And his performance in the GOP debates can change poll numbers quickly. Especially when people realize they have a better chance of regaining the White House with a strong nominee without Trump's baggage.
I think a lot of people think the election was stolen. I don't think anyone still thinks Trump is the President operating in exile. Perhaps I'm being too literal.
The decision looms. to Trump or not to Trump. That is the big question for the GOP starting next Wednesday. You're right, others may emerge but clearly Desantis is the most likely viable alternative as of today.
LOL. The Kavanaugh assassination attempt or the time six (6) republicans were shot by a lefty extremist at a congressional baseball practice - have been memory-holed.
Only the Right does bad things. Only the Right needs to be responsible for their rhetoric. I thought you knew this. C'mon Brandon, align with the official narrative!
A year ago I read a similar essay in the Atlantic connecting Trump and James (and Trumpers and the Jacobites) asserting the lost cause motif. This OT article is actually superior in laying out the reasoning, but I still think the connection is a stretch.
As indicated, being a Jacobite meant different things to different people in different places. For those in the American Colonies and later in Ireland (at least most of it), the cause was eventually won. And as a political movement in Scotland and England, over the subsequent decades they won key concessions from the crown.
As for comparing Trump and James as individuals in "exile", no one - not even the Orange Man himself - claim Trump is still President. Jan 6th isn't remotely comparable to the Battle of the Boyne or any of the Scottish uprisings. And I don't think you'll find many people toasting The Donald long after he is dead.
That all said, I do completely agree, the Republicans are faced with enormous choice as to who will be their next nominee for President. If they are sane, they run with DeSantis and never look back.

But does Opa's kindness to strangers absolve him of a lifetime of sins committed against the ones who most depended upon him? Is husband #2 really condemned and deemed "worse" for sins he may have committed (perhaps ignorantly) as a child?
Value judgements on such matters are a complicated calculus. I wouldn't let Opa off the hook.
I had no idea that Fincher did this with the sound design of the film until this minute. But when I was watching the movie when it was released my ears couldn't take it.
Interesting article nonetheless from Wired magazine:
I had known that, but here is the OG pledge written in 1885 by Civil War vet Capt George T. Balch. It includes God, but sounds less like the creepy indoctrination speech we have today:
“We give our heads and hearts to God and our country; one country; one language; one flag!”
According to the random website i stumbled across - so it must be true: "[This pledge] was embraced by many schools, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and GAR (Grand Army of the Republic). This version was used until 1923 when the National Flag Conference opted to use today’s version."
Perhaps the influence of this version is why the modern version had God inserted.

I'll take your word for it, but the GOP nomination isn't going to be won or lost because of Republican voters in Mississippi.

Funny, I only remember that happening one time. And for me personally, I didn't give a flying F why they did it.
Perhaps you can try some other false equivalency that might get closer to the target. (pardon the pun).

It's only different because in the last decade the perceived or projected motivation for a crime has become more important than the crime itself.
Hence the urgent need for Thought Police and non-narrative censorship.
