I'm considering a more magazine-style layout and better integration of sub-blogs. Also, I've just added a different visual editor. We'll see how this works.
All good points! There's lots of resources out there that are useful to avoid copyright, and I could probably get some plugins rolling that can auto-generate pictures, too. For the most part this doesn't worry me. If we get our wrists slapped, so be it. It's happened before. It's a pain to take something down but the risk is minimal.
Hotlinking - yeah, don't do it. Upload photos only. And size does matter, as you say. We will run out of room at some point and have to pay for more. I think all that being said it's still worth it in the long run.
It was a very buggy box. I'm looking into other options. In any case, pictures in the comments are fine, but I'm talking more directly about posts here.
Sort of hard to explain. It's like the pictures from Facebook and nothing else. It's like Google Image Search except that you follow pictures that other people have found rather than just search for them. I wrote something about it here.
I absolutely agree (and loved that pic also.) Have you tried out Pinterest yet? I think you might really like it. It's a great way to search pics by following like minds. The image above is from AMC Theatres, and they have tons of cool stuff on there - and like mounds of Star Wars geekery which is just awesome.
It could be that this is related to the cache, which I have cleared and which may need to cache those files still. It's very quick on my machine with no load issues. What I may do - and I hope this isn't too annoying - is see if some of these issues don't just clear up by themselves while I tinker. If that doesn't work we'll try something else.
1. The rich-text editor was buggy and annoying. Too many mangled comments. Too many problems. I will try to find a better one. Until then, it's pretty easy to do some html if you need to.
2. I've changed the share widget to auto-hide. Let me know if you're still getting page load errors. I haven't gotten any at all so far for whatever reason. Thoughts and feedback are very much appreciated, but I do want to make social-sharing easier. We have a crappy social network presence right now and I want to change that.
3. I have some other redesign thoughts and ideas percolating. Feedback is always good. But please be detailed and constructive.
Kimmi makes a good point. We've banned four people so far, but I have no problem making it five. The quickest way to make that happen is to refer to me as "uppity" - "yer majesty" on the other hand is just fine.
We have a commenting policy which you can read. And of course spam filters are just software. We don't control how they work. No sinister party is spamming your comments. Seriously, you need to chill out and approach this conversation with grace and civility. You can argue forcefully without complaining constantly about things like the spam filter. Try it.
1. If you see a comment disappear, ask someone to check the spam filter. Quit playing the victim, it's really irritating. Blogs have spam filters, and links especially can spark them. It's very simple to politely ask an admin for assistance without screaming and bawling about being banned. Come on, dude.
2. You are not the admin of this blog. Sometimes we do make changes here. Or, rather, I tinker with the site and make changes. You don't even need to ask why something has changed because that will 99% of the time be the answer. If you don't like a change certainly offer up feedback. Please try to do so in a constructive way. You are a guest here, and stomping around as if you were the boss is unbecoming of a commenter on this blog.
Mike, you are the most partisan non-partisan I know. You pull one rightwinger trope after another out of your hat and then say "who me? I'm no conservative." Maybe not but you sure do your best to sound like one.

It's a photo site. http://pinterest.com/

Wonderful! Glad you like the idea. Ghost Busters quote is much appreciated. I'd start there and work backwards.

BlaiseP - if you know about the programming aspect here - can you illuminate if we're on a good or bad track with this upgrade?

I deactivated the reddit and linkedin buttons. Maybe this will help.

Clear your browser's cache. It should be minimized by default now.

Can you elaborate? Is this when you load this site or when you try to share to linkedin?

No more deep burning hatred? ;)

Cool. Well if anyone has issues with screen loading funny or whatever, please sound off here in the comments.

Agreed. I've retired it because it was so buggy. We may or may not find a decent replacement.

Kenneth. I'm going to say this one time only.

Snarky - on your last point, I very much agree. There's just no money in it right now. Nobody is funding a liberal-libertarian wedding.
