  1. Two Thoughts:

  2. Wasserman is saying that Loeffler lost:

Good. She’s the one who did the insider trading in February.

This is one of the things that she deserves.Report

  3. You see the Proud Boys rioting in DC and getting their butts handed to them by the cops? I’d post a tweet but I don’t know how to do that! 😀 😀Report

  4. Warnock declared the victor. Wasserman thinks Ossoff has it as well. A Black man and a Jewish man are about to become Democratic senators from Georgia. The remaining 200K votes are from Democratic strongholds around Atlanta.

The AP reported that 56 percent of Georgians disapproved of Trump’s post-election attacks on their process.Report

    1. Georgia Republicans are going to find it harder going forward. Democrats won state-wide races in high turnout elections.

And nothing motivates voters like the ability to win. Statewide races have been out of Democratic reach for a long time there.

I suspect GA will move to restrict early and mail voting — it turns out those long lines in Atlanta may have had something to do with the GOP’s success there, and the GOP does hold a trifecta in GeorgiaReport

  5. This looks to be a great and amazing night. Lots of D senators (sanders, wyden, etc) will run committees. If only they could off load schumer they could get a lot more done. Lets hope the D’s learn this lesson about winning elections.Report

    1. Schumer is a lot more effective than people give him credit for and has moved left. He has called for legalized marijuana and an FDR styled 100 days. He confronted Feinstein about her dementia.Report

      1. He confronted Feinstein far after it was apparent she had a problem. I have a ton of sympathy for how hard that conversation must have been, but still it was overdue. He is terrible at retail politics and his tweets/ killer lines just clang so f’n loud. He is almost entirely passive. He is a way to old Dem who is not equipped for dealing with the R’s of the last couple decades.Report

        1. Eh, Schumer is bad at TV politics, but from everything I’ve read, he’s very good at state-level New York politics, which is why somebody did try to primary him, they’d end up face down in the dirt, wondering why they just lost by 30 points.

As far as a Senate Majority Leader, the question is always, fine, whose the person who can get support from Bernie Sanders, Joe Manchin, Mark Warner, and Tammy Baldwin?Report

            1. Maybe Cory, but if you think the more neoliberal Senators are going to be OK w/ Warren, I have some bad news for you. Also, does Booker even want the job? It’s not all sunshine and rainbows having that job.Report

            1. Sinema and Manchin can have all the Space Force bases that they want as far as I am concerned.*

*I still contend it was a missed opportunity to not call them the Cadets.Report

  6. That’s it, it’s over, we’re done. Warnock has been called by everyone, and it would be fairly mind-blowing for Ossoff to fall back behind at this point.

    A 51/50 Senate.

So…now things come up for a vote in the Senate. Like, Republicans have to actually vote on, or at least actually filibuster, legislation.

A lot of them are up for reelection in 2022.

A lot of people are demanding things get done, and a lot of policies that the Republicans are blocking are _really_ popular.

Now Republicans have to openly vote against them.

So I’m more optimistic than a 51/50 Senate might seem to warrant. A lot of times the GOP only got away with what they did because McConnell made sure they don’t have to vote.Report

  7. So, let me present a hypothetical, one hour and 15 minutes before it starts: The EC vote counting isn’t going to go as slowly as people think.

Or, rather, there will be less objections than people think.

I think a few Congressentities said things they didn’t mean, and others will be considering how badly still hitching yourself to Trump _after he lost_ just worked out in Georgia, will probably just sit there silently…it’s not like they have to defend an actual vote. All they have to do is not object.

I think a lot of them have figured out that Trump doesn’t actually pay attention, and he’s fixated on Pence.

And, incidentally, Pence watching his entire hypothetical career get _burned to ashes_ by Trump, for something he has literally no control over, after being run out of on a rail by Indiana, but rehabilitated as ‘VP who stayed completely silent and showed completely loyalty to Tump’, is just…the greatest surprise gift ever.

    It couldn’t happen to a better Christofacist.Report
