So I’ve done some more research into this whole “Rock Climbing” thing.
Apparently, the worst accident at City Rock did not involve someone dying but merely breaking their back. As it turns out, the person in question was using their safety equipment incorrectly and is the reason there is a video explaining that you need to use your safety equipment correctly and then have a buddy check it before you climb.
Also, my co-worker who does this all the time gave me a speech about how City Rock isn’t climbing, it’s training for climbing. Climbing is what we’re going to do after we get good at training, he tells me.
He says many things.
Anyway, last time I went rock climbing, it was two days later that “Boom Went The Dynamite” as they say. I felt like I had been beaten up behind a dumpster.
Brother Michael Cain told me:
You will be surprised at how quickly your muscles adjust to the new form of exercise. One of the things I find annoying about reaching a certain age is that muscles get much slower at adjusting.
He also told me that it probably wouldn’t take more than six weeks to notice how different two days later was.
So I figure, okay. I’ve got, like, no fewer than three co-workers who go to City Rock on a regular basis and two of whom I work with closely enough to be okay with them belaying me.
As such, every week, for the next six weeks, I intend to go to City Rock and climb.
Which is what is going to happen this coming Saturday. But, just in case, we’re going before City Rock does its “Geeks Who Drink” event and, we’re told, there is a group of people who go there every week and always win. Our team will have Maribou on it. I suspect the other team won’t know what hit them.
I’m almost excited about it. Except for the “sore two days later” thing which, by my calculations, will hit me on Monday. Which is, like, the worst day for anybody to be doing a “golly, I can’t believe how much I hurt!” thing. It probably serves me right.
Maribou and I have pencilled in a date on Sunday to see a movie (or two!) as well. So, all in all, looks like we’ve got a good weekend scheduled.

Jay’s so sweet to say I’m the clincher when what he really means is “[most longstanding workspouse of Jay’s] and I swept the floor at our old Geeks who Drink hangout, and I feel good about the idea of us sweeping the floor at this new one.” And he’s right.
I do add some quirkiness to the mix though.
We also have a kids’ birthday party to go to. Sometimes I think parents invite us to these things just to have adults around who do NOT add any kids of their own to the mix. (Really it’s cause they are fond of us and we like their kids. But.)Report

As I have to go to my printer, who is just across the river, this afternoon I figured that I would take the night off from the wife and get a room to be there early. Got to get my junk shopping fix in! Sunday will be packing up product (from said printer) for shipping on Monday.Report

I used the Autobelay this time.
Man, if you have trust issues, *AVOID* the Autobelay. You jump away from the wall and you’re in freefall for anywhere from 2-3 feet which is, like, less than half a second but that is a very *LONG* less than half a second.
In any case, I have not yet honked a dinky horn yet *BUT* my shoulder hurts, my elbow hurts, and my knee hurts. I already know that tomorrow will be bad and Monday will be worse.

Father DegrawEsq turned 70 on Friday. We were all up in Sacramento for the Cal State Fair.
On Sunday, Lee and I went to a Sacramento farmer’s market and got a great goat cheese and delicious corn. Went to a good dim sum place and went to huge ass liquor store:
