I do want to point out that for all Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho’s flaws, he did genuinely want to improve things, and accordingly deputized the smartest man he could find to help. In that respect, if he’d been our only other IRL choice running against what we got, I would proudly Vote Camacho.

The film has sometimes been criticized for a hint of an implied embrace of eugenics. It’s not a view I subscribe much to, since I don’t think the film so much has a “message” as a “comedic premise”.

There’s a subreddit for fans of the film, dedicated to highlighting examples of real-world idiocy and parroting film quotes, and it’s had a real problem with rightwing drive-bys submitting “woke” or trans-related items, because to them, from their POV, THESE are examples of the world descending into stupidity.

Which sparks pushback from the regular denizens of the sub, because they say look you are missing the point of the film’s satire, it’s about exactly this sort of regressive-caveman mindset taking over and progress being lost; and now I must consider that perhaps the film DOES have a messageReport

No one seems to remember that Tulsi, like her dad was a Democrat only because one has to have a “D” in front of their name to be elected to statewide office in Hawaii. One she had that action behind her the mask came off pretty quickly.Report

I always feel compelled to point out that the inspiration for Idiocracy was C.M. Kornbluth’s short story The Marching Morons (read or download it at https://www.gutenberg.org/files/51233/51233-h/51233-h.htm)Report
