Weekend Plans Post: Back To Normal
Last week, everybody was still pretty much hungover from the holidays. Heck, two of my bosses didn’t even come back to work until Monday of this week. After getting through the whole “What’s my job? What would I say I do here?” thing, I remembered how to do some light sysadmin, integration, test, and customer service work. Oh. Yeah. I take the specifications from the customer and bring them down to the software engineers. Well, sometimes my secretary faxes them.
Forget stuff like “You don’t have a full kitchen available in that building so if 9AM rolls around and you’re hungry, you have to purchase food instead of just, you know, making it”.
And, of course, the whole “you have to put on hard pants” thing.
This week had a lot of “what’s a Jira task?” kind of idle thoughts as well as “is this Jira task written in Mandarin?”
But stuff got done and stuff got tested and stuff broke and stuff got fixed and I had to deal with the most irritating task of figuring out whether the particular entry was being read as a string or whether it was being read as an integer and it’s always irritating when you realize that 10 + 1 == 101 and not 11 and that’s the thing that ate up your last two hours.
I digress.
Anyway, this week was the week where everybody, even me, was able to get back into the groove. Oh yeah, I boil eggs on Sunday afternoons. Oh yeah, I want them just on the other side over medium. Oh yeah, this is how you use vi. Oh yeah, just 16 years to go. Knock wood.
So, this weekend, we’ll be recovering from the first full week back.
Thank goodness that it’s a 3-day.
So… what’s on your docket?

THREE! DAY! WEEKEND!
I didn’t have my head back in the game until yesterday, I swear.
As is traditional, the end of the holiday season is marked by taking college boy back to school. This year that day falls on this coming Sunday.Report
