No GOP candidate running at present can win in a general, even if the Democrats drop Biden. The GOP has nothing policy wise to offer, and to win the primary requires hewing to hard right emotional messages that just won’t play well elsewhere.

And the GOP should have seen this coming – they have spent 40 years setting up this very show down so they can try to cement their power permanently.Report

“The GOP has nothing policy wise to offer…”

You misspelled “Democrats”. They have ZERO policies that any sane person wants.Report

Right, because Democratic policies have no relationship the the lowest unemployment rate in 54 years – including among Black Americans. and they didn’t get a law passed with GOP support to bring computer chip manufacturing back to the US. And Fox news polling showing that 62% of Americans supported the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is just a myth?

    Much ado about nothing.

First GOP debate is in August. First Primary is over 7 months away.

The only thing certain at this point is that the opinions being thrown around before campaign season really begins will be insufferable.Report

A technical problem with Twitter is not the same thing as a political problem with DeSantis. DeSantis is, on paper, everything a Republican could want. Except for the fact that he’s not Donald Trump. We shall soon enough find out if Republicans really are “over” Trump and my marker is on “plurality wins for Trump over fragmented opposition in the primaries, to be followed by a colorful and frenetic but ultimately simple lesser-evil pitch for the general.”Report
