    1. Looks like 22 to me, which would make this unusual. According to the National Archives page on the subject US passports were only required for a brief period during the Civil War, for part of the period 1918-1921, and after 1941. Might have needed them to get into the destination country, I suppose.Report

  1. Oddly enough, it went almost exactly like this when I applied for a replacement at the US consulate in Toronto last year. It was much easier than I’d expected because I lost the original and thought I’d have to make some sort of sworn declaration, but the woman laughed and said: “Don’t worry- if some terrorist tries to use your lost passport, we’ll know it wasn’t you!” Which, I guess, was a relief…Report
