It’s ok, when Clinton created the position of drug czar, he didn’t inhale.Report
I’m old enough to remember how it was a big scandal that people were selling drugs on the streets of San Fransicko.
Of course it was only yesterday, but still.Report
1996 was a very different time. The electorate was older, white, and much more conservative. The Christian Right was at or near the heights of its power and influence. Etc, etc.Report
Older is questionable. The median age in the US has been slowly but steadily moving up since 1970. The fastest growing age groups are all in the oldster category, and have been for quite a while.Report
“The electorate was…white”
Black voters often favor stricter drug laws than white voters. The only reason I can think of that you’d associate blacks with drugs is…not pretty, but to be expected. The soft bigotry of low liberal expectations.Report
If Bill Clinton was running today, he’d be talking about the importance of defunding the police and supporting people who are engaging in peaceful protests.Report
I don’t know. He always saw the value of playing to the middle. Supporting peaceful protests, sure, but actually peaceful ones. Not defunding the police.Report
I’m trying to figure out who the voiceover actor is. He’s the same guy that’s done a ton of these political ads, (here’s another one) but I don’t think it’s the same guy as either of the two most famous movie trailer voices, Don LaFontaine and Hal Douglas. It’s definitely not Fontaine, but it is a bit close to Douglas –
