On “Terror On The Potomac: The DCA Collision

I've heard that they do have another source of audio that includes the helicopter pilot's responses that he did see another aircraft; the current thinking is that since it was night and he could only see groups of lights, he was looking at one much further away and thought that's what the controller meant.

Questions I've seen, and I imagine will be addressed in the investigation:
* Why was the helicopter operating above 400 feet altitude in an area where it was not supposed to be above 200 feet?
* Why didn't the controller notify the CRJ crew of the approaching helicopter?
* Why didn't the controller more forcefully direct the helicopter crew?

Modern Democrats seem like the kind of people who can't recognize the joke in "World Ends, Women And Minorities Hardest Hit".

"

You're right, the Democrats had plenty of opportunities to say "despite what the Republicans want you to think, we are not going to ram any kind of Trans Agenda down your throats" and they did not take those opportunities.

You opened the lentil pipe and lentils gushed forth?

It's "even cup" (leveled off at the top of the cup) as opposed to "heaping cup" (piled up on top so you get a little extra).

tired: Mormons declaring people Actually Mormon after they're dead
wired: Americans impeaching Presidents after they're dead (starting with Nixon)

"March and I talked about a possible way to impeach Trump the other day. It involves impeaching Biden first."

i think you might be a little late on that one

what's the use of bringing you rocks when you've decided that you prefer sticks?

denial: everybody's saying it's fake!
anger: nobody's saying it's true!
bargaining: find me anyone credible who's saying it's true!
depression: there's still some people saying it's fake!
acceptance: it's Trump's fault it happened!

On “Memo: All Federal Grant, Loan, and Financial Assistance “Temporarily Paused”

Some of them don't, but are taking the most stringent possible interpretation of whether or not they "provide aid directly to individuals".

Like, food banks are saying "we take the grant money and use it to buy food, so our funding doesn't technically go directly to individuals, so, we're assuming that we can't do that now, sorry Trump I guess you shoulda wrote your memo better"

(This is turning out like that Government Shutdown back in 2018 that Stopped Trump Getting His Border Wall and then a few months later he got the money anyway and the wall he built was expanded by the Biden administration.)

"

"The right launched the Iraqi war starting with Shock and Awe too and that turned out *checks notes* not very well."

really? because the war part, the "invade a country and depose its ruler" part, that went great!

The occupation afterward turned to a bloody mess, thanks to Iran making sure that happened, but the part that everybody voted for worked out just how it was supposed to.

"

"36 million Americans didn’t vote."

I'm not sure, is this the Bargaining or the Depression?

"

Maybe we’ll eventually get to “okay, maybe things should have been done differently, I don’t see why we should talk about what they are though.”

"What difference, at this point, does it make?"

"

"our strategic plan is to pivot to media-tie-in exploitation shovelware"

"

Also, in 2016 it was Just A Fluke, it was "people didn't like Clinton and stayed home rather than voting". In 2024 it was pretty clear that people actually did want Donald Trump as President.

Insulation is one of those things where modern stuff is so much better than historical stuff and it's not because of some mystical wonder technological development, it's more "just don't do the dumb-but-simple thing you used to do"

Jaybird, don't you remember Gruber and the ACA? We can't go by what the people who wrote these laws thought they meant, we can only go by what the people who implemented these laws thought they meant. Like when the lady said "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it", that's what she meant.

Hey, the Rolling Stones did the Super Bowl in 2005!

And besides, Metallica was in Stranger Things (twice!)

it would be amusing to try and sell the two bands as progressive (because of the former's strong support for creators' rights in the face of corporate arrogation and the latter's public stance on queer positivity.)

It'll be plenty legible, it just won't be something we like.

It'll say things like "these two people shouldn't be allowed to have children together", or "this person shouldn't be allowed to have children at all", or "this person can have children but shouldn't be permitted to raise them", and all of those are things we've decided are Not Moral To Say. And we'll have to explain why they're Not Moral in an objective and programmable way that can be consistently applied to reality, and we're not going to be able to do that.

An AI might be able to generate an image of a urinal, but it won't be able to explain why that image of a urinal is actually art despite the creator specifically intending that it not be seen as art.
