The character limit can be invitation to abandon nuance, but if you take it as a creative challenge it can also be a good thing; refining a thought to its absolute bare minimum is always a good writing exercise. I try to think of it like the old composition exercises where they had to take all the articles and connecting phrases out and then re-read and see if you actually needed them or if it was just wordy fluff. So it's in how you approach it.
Nuance is a fair point. Happened to me last night with people who I daily interact with, something was taken the wrong way. It was quickly worked out, but even amongst friends who are familiar with things like your humor and sacrasm nuance can get lost really quickly.
Rumors are its troop withdrawl. That would make China happy. We will see. And thus far China And Xi Jinping have worked Trump at every turn so wouldn't surprise me if this is any different. Kim doesn't adjust the fade line in that silly haircut without checking with China; they are the straw stirring this drink, not Trump.
The very harsh truth is if this story didn't include terrorist targeting and impersonating journalist, it probably would have barely been reported. Higher body counts happen frequently with little US/Canadian Press notice.
Frankly, there was no reason to believe that the Iranians where every going to abide by any deal, or ever abandon their nuclear ambitions. Especially after they got the concessions they so desperately needs in cash and sanction relief. So this news is not only believable, but unsurprising.
This is an important lesson we are getting ready to repeat in North Korea. No matter what they say, they will never denuclearize. Assuming otherwise is just pretending.
We have them in WV. Right down to a town actually names Moundsville. Mostly famous for The West Virginia State Penitentiary, but also for the moundbuilders. There are several preserved sites scattered across the state.
The switch to their in-house brands is directly relates to the logistical issues we were talking about earlier in the thread. Wal-Marts entire business model, or at least always has been, was making profit off inventory cost controls. The "money is in the margins" is the old adage on this stuff. To point here is a story that focuses on Grocery but applies in general. Wal-Mart is going to inhouse brands because the Lidl/Aldi's of the world sell inhouse/discount exclusively and are eating them up. The theory is name-brands are more popular online, so the "margin" to make a profit in store is decreasing, thus the move to own brand. Plus they can control the acquititon process for their logistics and distribution better when they arent negotiating against anyone.
I could live with that, I think early voting has gotten a bit out of hand (30+ days in some places doesn't seem to have a sound basis). So open early voting the Sat prior and leave open with revolving locations, which is how they do early voting in my district anyway, I could be good with that.
One thought on Po1 and 2 that is adjacent, but a simple change I'd like to see is move election days to a weekend, especially primary voting. Many countries already do this.
We could go for a week on the disaster and lawsuits going over my home county in WV, Nicholas county, the local board of education, state board of education, and federal funding going on two years now trying to replace flood damaged schools. Utter disgrace of bad government.
The idea of curating a book collect just became daydream material. I'm sure I have heard of such a thing before but what a wonderful thought. Even with quite a few books I've hoarded over the years, in the new house I've actually found myself needing to fill the new shelving I've had built for the office. No first editions obviously for us simple working folk, although there are a few I'm rather proud of. Like my Father's complete set of the Sandburg Lincoln biography he got from his father that isn't worth money, but meant a lot to go from being punished as a kid for handling them to trusted to keep it.
That would make a good weekend post, if money was no object how would you direct a curator to fill out your library.
My two book items today were old paths for my reading habits: background material for my beloved Aubrey/Maturin series with Patrick O'brain: Making of a Novelist bt Nikolai Tolstoy and Harbors and High Seas: An Atlas and Geographical Guide to the Complete Aubrey-Maturin Novels by Dean King.
I wasn't a huge comic book kid, wasn't my thing, but one of the few characters I actually got into was Cable. So despite my general dislike of the Marvel movies I am interested to see what Brolin can do with it. Seems like the perfect fit of actor/subject so see where it goes.
I find this fascinating do expound on it: So is there a trend or generality to the difference between what sells in store compared to online? And how do they differentiate?
The heel turn when Trump goes full Trump, returns to his pre-2015 stances on everything, and pushes Medicaid for all as he runs as a centrist is going to be epic.
SHS was specifically invited by WHCA but I wouldn't be surprised a bit if that's the case. Schlapp and the like absolutely planned to walk out, not a doubt in my mind. Wolf's comments probably was even more than they hoped for if that was the case.
That first quote is especially important since its from Maggie Habernan, who as recently as a few days ago was derided by name by Trump on a Tweet. She is a frequent target of the President, despite knowing him for years and though Trump talks about not talking to her they go back to his NYC days and there are pics of them posing in Oval Office, so for what that's worth.
Appearance shaming is wrong. It's one of my own rules for social media I don't make fun of peoples looks. Sometimes I fail. SHS has been thrown look and weight jokes from day one. Whatabouting and hypocrisy doesn't make it ok. It is wrong. But its still just words, not an assault on democracy and everyone should calm down. But they wont because outrage sells.
All of these are true:
Every Trump supporter/official going knew this is what would be said/tone of evening
Wolf went too far in personal attacks, but if it had been funny would have gotten a pass
The walk-out was probably pre-planned, Schlapp especially it comes off hypocritcal since he is as "washington elite" as it gets
The Left is deluding themselves that they are going to out-vulgar or shame Trump to anyone outside their group
The Right, especially Trump supporters and MAGA-land, is absolutely ate up with woe-is-me self-victimization to the point they seek this out
A lot of journalist who try to be fair and professional are starting to notice and speakout/push back on all of the above.
The pull quote in the post of this playing right into Trumps hands is accurate
WHCA has no one to blame but themselves for turning what was once respectable event into the circus it is now.

I suspect we have already promised North Korea something for this recent spat of good behavior. We will see.

I like the "piled books" type of store as well, unfortunately that makes for a poor business model in an integrated POS-analytical ordering world.
