I think stating they agree is a bit too much. Trump's plan is mainly about letting hedge fund managers keep more money with a sop to servers. Harris' plan is not. This seems like a bit of a false equivalence: https://x.com/Brendan_Duke/status/1814140258407133264
Under the Cruz/Trump plan, fees can be characterizied as tips
Tipping is unfortunately deeply embedded in American culture and society and attempts to get rid of it get push back from both customers and workers. Ideally Harris is setting hers up to smash Trump for more tax cuts for hedge fund managers.
An interesting look at the mirage of the very rich mired in unsustainable debt.
Mr. and Ms. Miller lived a seemingly charmed life but his commercial real estate business was in shambles and they were spending more than they could afford. He eventually committed suicide while his wife and children were on holiday so they could get his life insurance policies.*
What is interesting here is that this couple grew up in the same part of the world that I did and my upbringing was very privileged in all ways compared to most of humanity but the Millers might have well occupied a different world. She apparently did not know much about his business dealings and doesn't seem to have been taught about or expected to ever have a career on her own. She "ran" an instagram account and some variants of consulting on her fabulous life for other society women and/or their aspirants but never seemed to moneitize it well or at all. Meanwhile, he seems to have thought she would have left him if he said we need to scale back our lifestyle and/or he thought scaling back their lifestyle would ruin his chances for a comeback and/or he did not want it himself.
This is actually another reveal of the Hack Gap in action.
1. Harris proposes no taxes on tips;
2. Democratic or Democratic leaning wonks state why it is a bad idea/bad policy and what would be better policy;
3. Trump comes out with the idea, screams incoherently like a Fox News Grandpa about how Harris' stole the idea from him like it is his bagged lunch from home;
4. Republican wonks stay silent about whether it is a good idea or not and troll types blast Democrats because Trump mentioned it first or something so he can't be that bad because he and Harris have at least one overlapping proposal
The problem with Trump is that is history of perpetual lying or playing with facts is also catching up with rapid cognitive decline/dementia. How do you tell with the Brown-Brown mixup was a lie or a dementia induced hallucination?
Former President Donald J. Trump told a jaw-dropping story on Thursday about nearly dying in a helicopter ride with Willie Brown, the former California politician and ex-boyfriend of his rival, Vice President Kamala Harris.
There was only one problem with the story. Or maybe two. Or maybe three.
It wasn’t the famous former San Francisco mayor on the helicopter flight at all. It was Gov. Jerry Brown, the former governor of California, who bears little resemblance to Willie Brown.
There was also no emergency landing, and the helicopter’s passengers were never in any danger at all, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom, who was also on the flight.
Jerry Brown, who left office in January 2019, said through a spokesman, “There was no emergency landing and no discussion of Kamala Harris.”
“I call complete B.S.,” Mr. Newsom said, laughing out loud.
Mr. Trump’s errant account, delivered during a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, came in response to a reporter who asked a leading question about Ms. Harris’s past relationship with Willie Brown, and whether Mr. Trump thought it might have had something to do with her career trajectory.
The two dated in 1994 and 1995, while she was a prosecutor in Alameda County, which includes Oakland, and he was the speaker of the California State Assembly, and he appointed her to two state boards. He was — and still is — married to Blanche Brown, but they have long lived separate lives.
“Well, I know Willie Brown very well,” Mr. Trump responded. “In fact, I went down in a helicopter with him.”
He went on to tell a cinematic tale of a close call with death — and of politically advantageous gossip on death’s door:
I taught English in Japan from 2002-2003 and lived in a glorified dorm basically with a bunch of other expat English teachers. Most of my housemates were Brits, Australian, or from New Zealand. I was the only American. There was one guy who was Canadian and a few Japanese people. Everyone had university degrees but the Brits (and to a lesser extent the Australians and New Zealanders) felt locked in their classes despite the university degrees in ways that just don't happen in the United States.

He proposed a hedge fund tax cut with this thrown in and the media goes along with it because they don't know how to not normalize Trump.

We should just pay people living wages and get rid of tipping.
Also stop normalzing Trump, the man doesn't have ideas beyond his own self-interest, he has grunts and gestures in search of that sometimes.
