Eh, it's an easy enough problem to solve but, yes, it'd require the Palestinian negotiators to say "it's this or nothing, deal." That's a challenge for the Palestinians just like dragging all their settler lunatics out of the territories is a challenge for the Israeli's.

A press conference might harm -anyone's- chances is an absolute truism. If any candidate fishes up in front of a bunch of reporters it hurts them to some degree. It even hurts Trump though his unique strategy is to provide an absolute deluge of bad press performances to overload the press' ability to report on it and to trigger their instinctive impulse to put their fingers on the scale to equalize the two sides.

But saying "A press conference might harm Harris's chances" is a pretty much completely anodyne statement akin to saying "using a blow torch carries a risk of injury".

Talking to the press is certainly necessary but as a candidate Harris has a right, indeed an obligation, to do so on her time and in a manner that best advantages her electoral chances. She'll talk to the press when she deems it advantageous to do so- current official line is she plans to do it before the end of August. She has no obligation to take instructions from the press as to how often or to whom she talks to regarding press appearances.

Yeah, this. My own guestimate is Harris' team is planning to run mostly press silent through the convention first to maximize their good vibes/honeymoon phase and then tackle unscripted press appearances after that. That'd also comport with Harris' own statements that she'll be doing pressers before the end of August.

Meh, that's old news. Obviously, the circle can be squared by letting refugees have a "right of return" only that right be to return to the territories of the new constituted Palestinian polity that would result from a final settlement. The Palestinians get their right to return and the Israeli's get to not have the Palestinian right to return. Not difficult.

I'd be in MTG myself but, some 20 years ago, around the time Weatherlight came out I realized how the card treadmill system worked and that I'd be buying cards endlessly and decided (with Weatherlight and my hatred of that crew lending a mild assist) to stop playing.

I'm going to comment, gently and with affection, that the various commenters who're jumping on Jaybird for this post seem to be reading really really far between the literal lines of what he wrong. I'm going to further suggest, again with genuine affection to my co-leftists, that you consider that your reaction in these comments may well be making a point for Jay that he couldn't have achieved had we stuck to the themes Chip, Dark and Doctor Jay's comments hewed to that I endorse whole heartedly.

That's a useful skill to acquire. As a country boy I'm jealous. There's not much call for throwing hay bales* skills or hauling chickens out of the egg farm to a truck skill right now.

Well it is, oddly, an improvement because tax free tipping is much less destructive policy (still bad tho) wise than corn/ethanol subsidies. So maybe those can get axed in time.

I didn't say she needs to do anything at all with the Wapo or the Grey Lady (fish em) but she does need to engage with the media generally. She has some time to do it but it needs to be done. It's part of the job of being a candidate and she needs it both to practice her communication and to hone her messages. It's not 2020, covid isn't raging and she needs to control how she's defined. If she doesn't do it then her enemies will do it for her- just because they haven't so far doesn't mean they can't, especially if she cedes the job to them.

It's certainly being talked about by a wide range of folks though it's certainly focused among Harris' detractors. Fortunately it's easily enough dealt with by simply doing some media stuff which happily also is something ya have to do to run for President.

Allegedly Harris did a couple of minutes answering rapid fire questions from her pool reporters in Michigan but there were no slip ups so it wasn't reported on widely. A start but not enough obviously- she did say she's going to do a full sit down interview before month end.

I mean, the actual lawyers may be working mid day on a Friday.

Don't hold your breath before the convention. I think she and her team want a clean vibe sweep through to the end of that.
