We have to make it more difficult to open a bar than it was even 10 years ago because the alternative is people selling cat meat despite marketing it as coon meat.
In between Team Red/Team Blue fights on my facebook page, the occasional Team Gold person shows up yelling "DTA!" and asking for evidence that the government isn't lying (again).
I don't think I've seen any serious deatherism on Team Red/Blue yet...
Che Guevara's last words are the source of a debate.
One story says that his last words were something to the effect of "Know this now: you kill only a man!"
The other story says that his last words were something to the effect of "Don't shoot! I'm Che! I'm worth more to you alive than dead!"
Which last words strike you as more likely? It's a crude personality test, really. Are you someone who holds Che up as a Grand Revolutionary? Or do you think that he was just another Leninist bully?
Wouldn't it be nice to know for *CERTAIN* what the last words were? (Hell, it's probably a mixture of both. He yelled the latter and then, after he was shot, spat the former.)
In the case of Osama, we should do what we can to hold up that he died holding his wife as a human shield instead of shielding her... and certainly instead of going down swinging.
Maybe I'm committing a beard fallacy but it seems like, in practice, many folks take the attitude (let's use feminism) "you can't be pro-life and call yourself a feminist".
Sure. There are people that I very much consider "statists" and "technocrats" call themselves "libertarian" but I don't see membership to the "libertarian club" as something that I control.
I am a registered Democrat, for example (an artifact of my turning 18 and still believing in things).
I think that you'd find yourself thinking "Jaybird's not a *REAL* Democrat" because there is some metaphysical Democratness that I just don't have.
As far as the state of Colorado is concerned, however, I'm a Democrat. It's measurable.
I don't know that feminism, or libertarianism, or whateverism, is equally measurable. I don't know that the people who hold up their personal favorite litmus test have the standing to be the judge of what is and what is not whateverist.
It's like saying "Mormons aren't *REALLY* Christians".
Maybe it's just because I'm Protestant but the glee doesn't bug me anywhere near as much as the inappropriate displays of it.
You want to post on your facebook something to the effect of "AWESOME!", then I will like your post. If you want to go to a public gathering and hold a sign and ululate "USA!", then I will cluck my tongue and disapprove.
Skit? Feh. Check out Red Son. It's a story where, instead of landing in Kansas and becoming a good Methodist, he landed in the Ukraine and because a good party member.
Dubya said more than his fair share of dumb things but the dumbest thing that he said was that he was no longer particularly interested in Osama.
While I can appreciate the argument that Osama's funds were frozen and that his movement was restricted and that his communications were limited to audio tapes carried via donkey to a place that had cars which were then driven to a place that had internet... the *SYMBOL* was something that, one would think, even a dumb president would care about.
My facebook was dotted with posts in a sotto voice explaining how tasteless it was to be taking this much pleasure in an old man's death.
There are two responses to this, I think.
1) Given that Osama probably had not retired, this could easily be spun as self-defense as much as vengeance.
2) There were two Osamas. The dude himself and the idea of the dude himself. The dude himself was pretty much neutralized... but the *IDEA* of the dude still had a great story. The idea of the dude now has a story with a significantly different ending that changes the tenor of the idea of him.
On “The Dead”
It was a good meme while it lasted.
On “Keynes vs. Hayek, Round 2”
And so the cycle continues.

As Che may have implied but probably didn't: you can't only kill the man.
"
There is always a fog of war and it's more than believable that Osama died hiding to the last second of his life.
So let it be written.

We obviously need more inclusive chants.
"U! G! L! Y! YOU AIN'T GOT NO ALIBI! YOU UGLY!"

I see I spoke too soon.

I remember chanting it at the Iron Sheik.
Perhaps this is what Vonnegut was talking about...

I made it my wallpaper.
I hope Maribou giggles.

And that doesn't strike me as accurate.

I would think that it helps when they go down swinging rather than holding a woman in front of them.
But maybe that's a cultural thing.

Would a public display of the body have been disrespectful according to Islamic tradition?
Would that have been just as likely to result in word-of-mouth saying that it was fake as word-of-mouth saying "they got him this time"?

Just the short form.

Let's go home.
