Well, Baltimore IS bad. Interestingly, I was talking to a parent in my area, and he said that ONE school district in my county ranked SO HIGH in the ratings that it literally pulled up every other school's ranking in the county when the county as whole was presented. Those schools taken individually were mediocre at best. This is in one of the richest counties in the state/area.

"

While true, the trend seems to be folks go back to their old previous ways. However, if I'd donating a lot of money to a school, especially before and during when my kids were in same school, and they got harassed because of their religion/ethnicity (i.e. being Jewish) I'd probably pull them out and cease donating. The large donors are regular donors...ie they've seen this before and continue to donate. Sure, maybe they stop for a while, a few month, a year, but then go back to donating. Those donors are continuing to support a organization that they have direct evidence that is endorsing, or ignoring folk who want me, my family, my race, dead. I'd have pulled the plug long ago. Yet they seem to continue to donate.

"

"I don’t think that’s what’s happened " IIRC, quite a number of wealthy jews have donated to elite universities. I also think it's fair to, generally, categorize many jews as on the left. Where has a much of the anti Israel come from? The left and the elite universities.

Many left of center jews live in very blue areas and have supported gun control initiatives, so getting a gun is very hard to do. And knowing karate isn't going to do it when someone's taking a gun, or bat to your head.

"

And yet, where have Jews donated much of their money to? In the exact place where what you described is coming from. Your own people contribute and support the same people that take your money and use it against you....and they still keep giving.....splain that to me.

On “Disney Lawsuit Against DeSantis Dismissed: Read It For Yourself

All the more reason to ensure rigorous prosecution of congressional members, administration officials, etc.
REGARDLESS of part, yes? Trump would fall into one those categories. You willing to say that?

"

No, what I'm saying is that we have a elite group of people who serve, in general, like a king. They are generally above the law, are legally or practically immune from prosecution, and make laws that the common folk must obey but they do not.

While not specifically applicable to the DeSantis/Disney situation it's generally applicable. Disney pissed off a powerful politician and he used his authority/power to make life difficult for them.

"

I'm not talking about presidents. I'm talking about politicians: presidents, congress persons, and anyone in high administrative office.

"

We've allowed politicians to serve that function.

Live by the king's leave, die by the king's leave.

On “Two Things About The Impeachment of Gus Mayorkas

"So the Secretary tells the truth" well, no. Again the definition of "secure" and all. Someone that highly paid and educated should have the capability to "wordsmith" better. Hell, I do it all the time. "No sir, to the best of my understanding, and my research, the answer to your question is "answer". This leaves me wiggle room for late arriving info, new facts presenting themselves, etc.

On “Open Mic for the week of 1/29/2024

I suspect the likelihood is "they all do it", but given Harvard's, and higher education as a group, being more liberal then conservative, it hits the left a bit more.

On “Two Things About The Impeachment of Gus Mayorkas

"Based on the underlying assumption, the border has never been “secure.” It sure wasn’t under TFG."

Frankly, I doubt I'd call it secure at any point is history. Certainly not within my lifetime, and certainly it gotten worse in my lifetime.

"

This is where I get my pedantic word definition mojo on. Ain't no way the southern border can be defined as "secure". Gus should know this and not use the word. It gives the American public the false assumption that there is no problem. There is.

Burt, your statement " It’s that he isn’t being cruel about it by keeping the bulk of the people concerned in the CBP “encounters” detained in prison-like conditions for the months and months it will take for their cases to be processed." Please explain why you think this is cruel. Why should we let folks who we know nothing about, loose in our country until AFTER we've confirmed they aren't a danger? I doubt that it's cruel by their standards.

On “Open Mic for the week of 1/22/2024

No one has a real interest is settling it. Just like the US southern border, just like race, just like a lot of things. If someone can milk it for money, power, whatever, they will. Resolving it takes the need for their existence away. So we wait for a "turning point" where everything shifts.

On “MAGA Isn’t Serious About the Border

Ofc not. It's part of the hindbrain of mankind. "The other" is to be feared. Not part of the tribe, be suspicious. That helps you survive on the savannah. Give it a thousand more years or two. Maybe then.

"

"I’m not sure this ethnic conflict is solvable."

After a hundred years, it might be solvable. Maybe. The only other option would not look good for the Jews, but would be effective.

"

Yep...because fundamentally politicians are mostly the same. Changing this would be working against the system. None of them really want to use their capital to do that. So many easier tasks.

"

"Biden administration is preparing an executive order meant to curb foreign purchases of US citizens’ personal data." but wont do anything about stopping the NSA from doing so.

On “Fani Willis Allegations, and What To Make Of Them

Jesus.
This is just stupid. I'd expect that THIS EXACT SCENARIO is part of any orientation for employment with the county, state, or local jurisdiction, and that even the appearance of impropriety is problematic. Hell, it's been a component of EVERY onboarding in every job I've had since 1992. Even if I make allowances for the incompetence of gov't workers and onboarding orientations, SHE KNEW this was wrong. If she didn't, she should be fired for not having the wisdom to see it. If she did, she should be fired just for the appearance of impropriety.

On “Thursday Throughput: Boeing Edition

Agreed. I had a convo with one of my Program Managers about this. He informed me that he used to be a materials engineer working for Boeing. 9/10 times when something like this happened, it was an assembly guy using the wrong bolt, lock washer, etc. DEI didn't even come up.

On “Open Mic for the week of 1/22/2024

If you live in a bubble, you have no understanding of "outside the bubble". That bubble can be location, only having friends with similar views, etc. I live in a very liberal area, but grew up in a conservative area, so when folks where I live start spouting off on stuff they know nothing about, farm subsidies, or guns, I'll play devil's advocate and give them a different view. The most common response was "I can't believe you think like that" and mine is "I can't believe you're that ignorant that half the country doesn't share your views.

"

I've been doing the same type of job for 30 years. 20 years ago I worked at a company that did SW coding for Airports. There was NO official WFH policy, but there were coders who worked 100% at home (usually stay at home moms with young kids). As long they made their productivity quota, no one needed to know they technically violated corporate policy.

Once the internet became widespread, I've never really HAD to work in the office. In fact, as I probably posted here before, during covid, I realized how much my work time was "wasted" listing to people bitch about work, or personal conversations before/after work conversations. In my last job, I had the option of partial WFH or 3 days in the office. WFH came with a 5K less paycheck. I took it as I'd spend that much on gas commuting.

On “America Needs Farmers, Just Not Their Politics

I realized absurdity of some of the fed gov's farm polices when, at 16, I rode behind a tractor bailing wheat. The farmer had been paid by the gov to NOT bring the crops to market, so he was bailing it for his cattle for feed. He explained how the set asides worked and that he was not doing anything illegal. He was right, but it really seemed stupid to pay a guy NOT to sell his wheat feed humans but to pay him to use it to feed his cattle, which SAVED him money since he didn't need to buy as much cattle feed the next year for this cattle. WTF? Much of this issue was caused by farm lobbyists, and how the law was written, but also how the law was administered by the gov't agencies. My point? It's not just the farmers, it's not just congress, it's everyone is the loop, including the bureaucrats in the gov't agencies.
