Case 1: Some school kids I knew somewhat (small town, everyone knew everyone) were banging on the door of my house (found out later they were joking) but I didn't know who they were or what they wanted. Opened the door armed but using my leg to hide it. Once I realized they were just f'ing with me, I put the weapon back.
Case 2: Wife and I came how to find the door to the house from the garage unlocked. We always kept all our doors locked whether inside or outside of the house. She stayed in the car, I went in, picked up a weapon, and cleared the house. Seems one of us actually forgot to lock the door.
Correct. And that's why every situation like this turns out the same way. It just seems that a lot of people need to be reminded of this fact, and that fact is exposed when people die.
Public opinion is one thing. Keeping your pension is another. As the guy said on his site:
"This not only shields the cops from being fired and having to work as Walmart Loss Prevention associates but protects (somewhat) the local county from being sued into becoming the parking lot of a closed Sears.
And somewhere another maniac just learned that there is a chance that he will be uninterrupted in his future killing because cops now can use Uvalde as an excuse not to get in the line of fire.
And probably the only people shot by cops will be armed parents rushing to the rescue."
This is anecdotal, but I think relevant. I never got sick...never. When I did it was never the flue or a cold, it was major. Then I got covid and was six for 6 weeks, before Covid was "officially" here. After covid, I never got sick....until I got the vaxes because it was a mandatory employee thing. I've been sick post having covid more times than in the prior decade. The only real factor that changed in my life was covid and the vax.
"A retired US Army colonel has slammed proposals for a new law that would allow vetted and qualified migrants an expedited path to citizenship by serving in the military. "
Oh sure, what could go wrong hiring "foreign mercenaries". That never worked out poorly before.
Let's assume that Israel decides to "solve the Palestinian problem" once and for all. Envision your worst interpretation of that phrase. What's the youth of the US going to do? Are they going to vote in someone who promises to take some form of serious action against the Israeli state, invade and restore Hamas, or take any significant action besides MAYBE getting some symbolic funding cut? I very much doubt any of that. They won't be allowed to. The powers that be have too much money & skin in the game to tolerate that type of disruption. There MIGHT be some internal US issues-possible violence here but would it be worse that the recent stuff? I doubt that.
The electorate is the electorate. They always want "free" stuff. We don't have good politicians because there are no incentives to be good, or perhaps the incentives incentivize bad ones.
I've seen the first movie on TV about 3 times. Love the visuals and the lack of sound (or sound that's easy to ignore) It brings true what I'd expect from a place like that. It reminds me of Laurance of Arabia in some ways.
"Alec Baldwin is seen firing gun on set of Rust, using weapon as 'POINTING STICK' and discharging weapon after director yelled 'cut' in scenes filmed before he shot cinematographer dead"
So not cooperating with the federal gov't re immigrants and complying with the directives of local political leaders is good here, but a governor in Texas stringing barbed wire and not cooperating with federal gov't requests to remove the wire is not?
How much of my parents divorce was the driving factor in me not wanting to get married, I'll never know, but it's a significant amount. How much of my parents situation was caused by people changing over 30 years and/or/both their parents disfunctions I'll never know either. The same above can be applied to my desire to never have kids. I was firm on never being married and no kids by my early 20s. I agreed to marry my then long term girlfriend because I discovered she REALLY WANTED TO GET MARRIED, however, the condition was no kids. Sadly, I didn't know much about women, and the marriage was dissolved. One of the topics I don't think is covered much in marriage and staying married, is understanding women (from the male side). That's key.
I heard somewhere that McDonalds was rolling out fully automated restaurants. Be interesting to see the cost benefit calcs in a place like Cali for that.
"But more and more, our audience (or the segment of the audience that has been politicized) equate the perceived messaging in a film as a quality issue." I'm sure that's happened. That's not my issue though. Remember that scene when Rey, in the Force Awakened, can pilot the millennium falcon like a seasoned pilot? It just happened. Sure, she's got the jedi powers, but IIRC, nothing in the prior movies indicated that force sensitives had an innate understanding of flying ships they'd never been in. And she pilots like a seasoned vet. This is the "stupid". It's a glaring disconnect. Then, there's little of her actually training and learning how to use her powers, unlike all the other main characters...
Really, no hero's journey? She doesn't grow at all. That's just not how things work. It's against the prior cannon, and breaks the whole suspension of reality thing for me.
Do I own the location / site? If yes, it's MINE. I can do what I want (assuming it's actually mine, not on some site like youtube where it's actually youtubes, not mine.
Because people are motivated by incentives. What could possibly be a response from the public if the president said "we're going into Afghanistan and going to stay there for 3-5 decades. It'll cost 4 trillion dollars, but it's necessary? One response might be "yes, we need to do this." The other might be "screw that, we should spend that money on Americans". Another might be "Nuke the bastards". Getting buy in from the pubic is the last thing politicians and policy makers want to be subject to.
That's not the definition of Censorship, but it's only "illegal" or a constitutional violation when the gov't does it, not when a private group does it.
