  1. This right here is where the action is at. Republican’s are going full violent overthrow of the gov is just fine as long as you are incompetent about it. There will be no investigation of 1/6 if you aren’t on the team then Fu.Report

      1. In fairness, what are more persuadable people supposed to think of this? That we can expect repeat events, this time with GOP office holders officially on board with the mob?Report

      2. Always attack….that is the modern trumpy and internet style of comms. Always attack even when you have no way to defend what is happening. In fact attacking is even better when you can’t defend. Just attack someone.Report

          1. Well if you believe the National Review – as I quote below, they have. If you believe Mike Pence – they have. That the left saw this decades ago and started screaming about it, all the while being told to go sit in the corner and suck our collective thumb is I suppose now beside the point.Report

  2. McDaniel’s claim now is that “legitimate political discourse” refers to Trumpworld’s attempt to overturn the election via the legal and political system. This is pleading guilty to a greater charge.Report

  3. Coming against the confession by former VP Pence that he couldn’t legally do anything to stop the certification, this is clearly a move by the Trumpista to consolidate their hold in the GOP.

    God help us all.Report

    1. The radicalization and yearning for violence that is the modern GOP is like the creature in It, where the “adults”, meaning the media pundits and Republican apologists, are simply unwilling to see It or acknowledge It’s existence.

Or maybe a better analogy is how the family of an abusive drunk just keeps pretending that all is normal and well, even as they go to increasingly extreme and bizarre steps to tiptoe around the beast.

Trump goes around telling people how he tried to overthrow an democratic election and we get thumbsucking thinkpieces on Joe Biden traveling to Delware.

A violent mob tries to murder half of Congress and we get furrowed brows over Ibram Kendi.

The GOP and Fox News spread anti-vax misinformation during a pandemic which has killed a million Americans and we get “Some people say” stuff about Joe Rogan, the “Just Asking Questions” guy.Report

  4. The Republican National Committee has voted to formally censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for “actions in their positions as members of the January 6th Select Committee not befitting Republican members of Congress.” This is both morally repellent and politically self-destructive.

The action of the mob on January 6 was an indefensible disgrace. It is deserving of both political accountability and criminal prosecution. Aspects of it are also fit subjects for a properly conducted congressional inquiry. It is wrong to minimize or excuse what happened that day.

Well now, even the National Review thinks the RNC has gone too far. There’s a new day dawning I guess.

    1. NR has always criticized the RNC.

I read the censure. I think it was a jumbled mess. I wouldn’t have signed it, but I could have signed a different censure for the two. I believe in accountability for January 6. This committee has no path toward increasing accountability, and never had any intention of pursuing one. The protest, the committee, and the censure were all garbage moves.Report

      1. The Select Committee has two paths to accountability – criminal referrals to the DoJ and legislation after it concludes its work. Both will come, though the later may be too little too late.Report

        1. I have yet to hear any explanation for why the committee would be able to find crimes the DoJ couldn’t. As for legislation, Congress can do it any time they want to, whether based on DoJ or committee information.Report
