Weekend Plans: The Cancellation
Holy cow. Is tomorrow Friday already? Indeed it is.
We had plans on Saturday night. Hang together with the gaming group, have a discussion here or there about the various goings-on in our dinky little corner of the world, enjoy a meal, enjoy sitting in a basement with friends, then telling a collaborative story and having some laughs until it’s time for everyone to say “holy cow, it’s 10PM!” and wander home.
Then… one of us said that he was going to be late. Then another cancelled. Then another cancelled. We can still do stuff! We’ll just be late!
And you know what? Nah.
And so, for the first time since the end of the Quarantine, we are in a place where we *HAD* plans to spend good time with good friends but those plans got cancelled, like, *DAYS* before we so much as discussed what kind of snacks we’d want to bring.
We have gone from a weekend-with-plans to a weekend-without-plans and that’s the first time that that has happened in more than a year.
I had forgotten this particular flavor of bittersweet. I miss my friends, I miss sitting in a basement with them, and the fact that I’m going to miss one of our gaming groups so soon after having them return is kinda bad.
But there’s this nice little “we don’t have to do anything? Anything anything?” that is hiding there in the back.
Knowing us, though, we’ll probably figure out a way to do something that isn’t as good as throwing dice in a basement. Studying. Sorting. Cleaning.
But, for now, the plans involve: Nothing.
So… what’s on your docket?

We’ve been getting so much rain lately that no dirt trails will be walkable, but the weather is supposed to be pretty good this weekend, so I think I’ll be on walking some paved trails.
I’ve been itching for a bookstore haul, but I just found out that the big store a few towns over went out of business, so I guess I’m going to do the online equivalent. So boring compared to real-life. I know we have food-lovers on this site who have been excited to get back to grocery store shopping; for me, it’s got to be book stores.Report
Finish the repair work on granddaughter #1’s bicycle. The front brake works again, the rear brake works properly, the chain is much cleaner and freshly lubricated, and as soon as I can get replacement cable housings I’ll replace the busted shifter. I must remember to have words with her father about ongoing maintenance…
Pray that the monsoon moisture forecast for the weekend hits Fort Collins instead of the burn scars upstream. Little hope of that — the scars sit in the natural thunderstorm pattern.Report
The storm was bad down here. We’re fine, but there were several thunderclaps that happened a second or less from the lightning and the phones sent out multiple “seriously, don’t go anywhere… flash flood” warnings.Report
There’s part of me that thinks the rest of us should get together and play board games…but there’s another part of me that thinks sitting in front of my computer with an adult beverage, alternating between playing Darkest Dungeon and studying for the RHCSA sounds like a good Saturday night.Report
