  1. If they hadn’t to put Vance on the ticket, they might have been able to attack Harris’s experience in a way that wasn’t the obviously racist ‘DEI hire’ stuff.

But they did. So that’s what they’re going with.

I hadn’t realized Musk had anything to do with that, but it checks out, in the sense it is a very bad plan.Report

  2. Elon is also backtracking on claims he was going to be pouring absurd amounts of money into Trump’s campaign ($45 mm/month was reported originally, and now he says that’s not the case).

Were the original reports wrong? Is Musk trying to pressure Trump into some other change or concession by pulling his hand back? Is Tesla stock tanking, as people who believe in EVs are disgusted with the man running the company and his overt political maneuvering (Trump and Vance not only want to end subsidies for EVs, but implement them for ICEV’s)? Or is this not looking so winnable for Trump now, and Elon sees no need to waste all that cash?

    Tune in tomorrow!Report

  3. Also, what’s that graphic he’s standing in front of in that pic? Isn’t that the map symbol that tells me where the tractor-beam-generator or cell where the Princess is being held or the reactor core on the Death Star are located?Report

      1. It’s a logo for an air maintenance group or operation, though who knows which. If you look for air force/air national guard maintenance groups/operations logos, you’ll see several with gear logos.

I know this only because my grandfather was an airplane mechanic at Robins Air Force Base once upon a time.

(And my uncle continues to work with an air maintenance squadron at Robins, though as a civilian engineer, not a mechanic).Report

      1. Yeah, but it’s questionable in my mind if such laws are enforceable, or if the Electors’ decisions are privileged. These laws haven’t been enforced in the past, to my knowledge, despite a handful of faithless electors in most of the recent election cycles.Report

        1. The SCOTUS ruled in 2020 that they are, including the ones that replace faithless electors during the state process. 33 states have some law, 17 (I believe) with the kind that guarantees the election results are followed.

Unless Trump wins in a landslide, there could be enough faithless electors to throw the decision to the (new) Senate. No constraints on how Senators vote.Report

  4. Heh, the rumors are just to remind Vance that he’s replaceable and owes his place to Trump.

The threat of betrayal is just Trumps way of saying, welcome to the team.Report

  5. I’m surprised to hear that TFG was hot for Burgum. I thought he wouldn’t want to run the risk of being overshadowed by a legitimate, and self-made, billionaire.Report

  6. The last time the Republicans nominated a 39-year-old as their Vice-Presidential candidate, there was a lot of speculation that he would be dropped from the ticket mid-race.

Does Vance happen to have a dog named Checkers?Report
