I’d like this BSDI aside expanded on. Which Democratic party actors are we talking about? What policies? I would be genuinely interested in some examples of policies or proposed laws that the Dems opposed not because they opposed the goals in principle but, simply and exclusively, because they wanted to block anything a GOP President did that might be politically popular and help that President electorally.Report

The heavy lift on any such argument would be for a person to find, first of all, a program proposed by Republicans which is intended to help the American people.

Think about the major policy programs that Republicans are talking about, think about the Project 2025 by the Heritage Institute.

Its all punishment of hated outgroups, bolstering minority power of Republicans, insulating themselves from the will of the people.

The closest thing they have to student loan forgiveness is tax cuts for the rich, and from a political perspective, these two pair nicely to demonstrate to ordinary voters which way they should vote.Report

Sure student debt relief and tax cuts for the wealthy are similar in that they both transfer money from the poor many to the wealthier few but I really was hoping David could illustrate some Democratic examples because I genuinely and coming up empty on ones myself.Report
