  1. As much as Ukraine is in an existential fight for it’s existence so is Putin. He has been since the glorious invasion failed after a few days. UKR is, at least, a country with a large population. Putin is just one man atop a giant group of men who would love to kill him to take his power. Dictators are always weak when they aren’t having new conquests or the money taps flowing free.Report

    1. Putin’s rule is in danger, not his existence. If he wanted to scrape together a couple trillion rubles, a battalion of troops, and a few mistresses, he could retire to any 100 square miles of Russian territory he chose. If he put his mind to it, he could be accepted as an elder stateman in Davos within five years. Become president of an international bank or something.Report

      1. This seems about right. I also think that if he’s in any kind of danger it isn’t because of anything we would necessarily understand from the headlines. Based on their track record I doubt US intel and security insiders know Putin’s true constituency(ies) much better than the casual observer of foreign affairs. The guy has been in power 25 years for a reason.Report
