For the good of the country, no one should vote for any Republican at any level of government, because they hve shown themselves to be in open or tacit agreement with the Trumpists, and at the state level have indulged in the same anti-democratic machinations.Report

The interesting thing about existential threats to freedom is that they cause people to vote strategically not morally.Report

Well, lemme know if the strategic option acknowledges that the existential threat is bad to the point where they reschedule the mary jane.

If the status quo is too important even in the face of a threat claimed to be existential, I think we know how serious the claim is.Report

I don’t think your view is shared by all that many people.

For instance, I think that minority groups like Jews and black people already vote strategically, placing their freedom and safety ahead of other concerns, like marijuana legalization.
Young women are also moving strategically, elevating their reproductive rights ahead of other concerns.

The number of people who consider marijuana a high priority voting issue I think is pretty small and electorally irrelevant.Report

I have yet to see this occur, honestly.
Trump was considered an existential threat to China.
China is considered an existential threat to America.

These do not prompt people to vote strategically.Report
