This man was clearly sick, and twisted, and had easy access to guns in his community. None of that has anything to do with his and his victim’s immigration status. Based on your narrative, this small town is awash in guns and people wiling to use them to settle issues.

From what I know at this point, this tragedy would suggest reforms along two tracks. First, we need laws that will help to prevent criminals and violent people from being able to access guns. Second, we need comprehensive immigration reform that includes both border security and an overhaul of the bureaucracy to make it easier to come here legally.

Much of the left has been advocating for these two things, with this language, for decades. Something as simple as 100% background checks for all sales – including private party sales for instance. but no, we keep being assured that since the existing gun laws don’t keep criminals from acquiring guns, there’s no point. Which leaves us at lowering supply. What the AR-15 ban is aimed at doing. Hell, we’d settle for needing a full back ground check, a course in and demonstrated proficiency of use for the AR-15 and significant insurance requirements. Not going to get that either.

As for immigration – both the politicians and the business community like it this way. Until that changes for one or the other I doubt we will see any meaningful changes.Report
