It bears noting that Bibi’s didn’t win the election overwhelmingly but rather by the thinnest skin of his teeth. For a government with such a feeble electoral mandate to undertake a revision of something so fundamental to the Israeli state as the balance of power between her courts and her parliament is risible. It’ll be interesting to see if Netanyahu can pull it off or something that even approaches similar levels of ambition. If he succeeds I think the Israelis will be staring at a genuine inflection point for the longevity of their state.Report

LOL. I mean…sure. That’s one way to see things.

But…um…Israel has been slipping into colonial fascism for quite some time. Like, in front of everyone. Well, actually, it started as that, what has been slipping is its mask.

It’s mostly because the far right in Israel is incredible powerful, but are a minority…of a minority, if you actually count the people living under their decisions, aka, the Palestinians. But they think they are in charge and will do anything to keep power.

It has been incredibly obvious that Israel was going to completely fall apart very soon, in the future, because the supposed ‘moderate’ Jewish Israelis have lost any semblance of control, and both far-right Jews (Who keep pushing for conflict and are, in fact, a large cause of it with their settlements, something both international law and any sane country would outlaw.) and Arab Israelis, who are incredibly unhappy with the treatment of Palestine have been gaining numbers, and it has become increasingly clear that…

…well, I was about to say ‘There is going to be a civil war’, but in a technical sense, the area has been in a civil war for decades. Let’s just say it will spill out to the areas that are currently labeled Israel.

And at some point, I really hope that people who keep insisting the problem was the Palestinian’s actions actually _reflect_ on just how wrong they were? But probably not.Report
