Weekend Plans Post: The Stolen Day Off
Last weekend was Wrestlemania Weekend. That’s one of those weekends that you know about for a year in advance. You can put in a request for the day off after Wrestlemania a year in advance.
You probably think something like “I don’t need to request Sunday off, though… that’s a day off anyway!”
Well… you might someday find yourself in a situation where one of your work bros calls you on Sunday at 10AM saying “Hey, can you log in and get on Teams?”
And then spending 4 hours dealing with an emergency, making you late to your Wrestlemania date. And then having to come in on Monday anyway, despite the request, because you’re already spun up on the emergency and should at least go to the morning scrums and then the late-morning planning and then go into the lab to do some Root Cause Analysis and, next thing you know, you worked nine freaking hours on your day off.
But with the handful of extra hours the week before and the 4 hours on Sunday, that means that it’s not too many extra hours to just get Friday off outright. No need to use vacation hours or anything.
Which might be an upside? Maybe? Doesn’t feel like one, though. In any case, the 3-day weekend that was requested last weekend has evolved into the 3-day weekend that is mandated this weekend. And, of course, my shocks are making weird noises so I’m going to spend tomorrow at the shop getting my shocks changed.
Dang it.
At least I have the day off already.
After that, it’s a gaming weekend! A couple of people aren’t going to show up so we’re going to be playing a board game and eating Thai and engaging in banter and then it will be Sunday.
Which will be spent doing little if not nothing. Perhaps doing laundry in preparation for the great swapping out of Winter Items to Summer Items.
So… what’s on your docket?

I remember McDonaldland Cookies. Do they still make them? (I have not eaten McDonald’s in *years*)
I have to get out this weekend; this place is crushing me. I’m still trying to decide whether to mask up (yes I still do) and venture into an antique shop for the first time since early 2020, or whether to go to a park area about forty minutes south of here and just walk around for a while before going to a nicer grocery store than what I normally have access to.Report
I know they sell normal chocolate chip cookies now. I’m not sure about the little ones, though.Report
We’re taking the dogs to the vet tomorrow for their annual stuff. Other than that, I don’t really have plans. I may try to watch the RoH Supercard of Honor that I missed last weekend. I might try to get in some board game time. I imagine I will do some work on getting the house organized. Overall, there is nothing that I have to do, so a lot of choice about what I actually do.Report
Absolutely nothing on my docket, aside from gaming on Saturday night. I’m still “blocked” on how to wrap up the current chapter of our D&D campaign, so I’m going to dedicate some time to doing other D&D-related things in the hopes that inspiration will strike. I’ve got some new music to listen to so tonight I might camp out with either my laptop or at my desk with some kind of adult beverage and give them a listen (hmm…at the desk, doing D&D stuff while listening to new music…).
Plus, K is going to be out nearly all weekend while she attends the next installment of yoga instructor training, so I’ll be mostly on my own this weekend. The possibilities are endless…until Sunday night, anyway.Report
Going out for some fish tonight (recalling my Catholic roots).
Other than that, we’ll see what the weekend brings to me.Report
