    1. To elaborate: it’s not easy to create a high-trust society. It’s fairly easy to maintain one, though. You need the people to believe that the system is fair. That’s not the same thing as the system being fair, of course, but it’s similar. A high-trust society can absorb moments of peculiar coincidence relatively easily.

      Be fair, encourage others to be fair, and don’t try to persuade people that things aren’t fair. If I recall correctly, fair is putting on masks when they help and not requiring people to put on masks when they don’t; reasonable voting laws and not lying about election results; treating a white man and a black man the same and not being forced to pretend that they might be women; stuff like that.
