1 Hour long training session on "diversity is our strength"
1 Hour on emergencies in the office (fire, etc)
1 Hour on Kickbacks, gifts, donations
1 Hour on international trade, prohibited items, customs, etc.
1 Hour on radiation exposure, it's uses, etc.
All have end of training quizzes and most have in training sub quizzes, requiring 80% success to continue.
I'm missing several more but i'm too lazy to log in and count them.

Often one hears what they want to hear.

Please talk to my state then. My taxes have gone up. The roads are worse than they were 10 years ago, and 20 and 30 years ago. No, what's not happening is the state is using road funds for other things. IIRC it was to cover overspending in some other areas, with an "iou" give to the road fund.

On “Republicans Defending Joe Biden

So let's break this down a tad:

Trump:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/09/climate/trump-oil-gas-mar-a-lago.html

This is the first paragraph:
"Former President Donald J. Trump told a group of oil executives and lobbyists gathered at a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago resort last month that they should donate $1 billion to his presidential campaign because, if elected, he would roll back environmental rules that he said hampered their industry, according to two people who were there."

Farther down, we get some more details:
"Mr. Trump did not request money in exchange for killing Mr. Biden’s climate regulations, the two people in the room maintained. Rather, the former president told executives that he was determined to squash what he considered anti-business policies, and that the oil industry should therefore want him to win and should raise $1 billion to ensure his success."

That's not exactly an overt bribe solicitation. But you hate the guy, so sure, why not. The last thing I want to see is this idiot back in the presidency, but sheesh....

Based upon CBS news, Menendez did a hell of a lot more then what you're alleging Trump did.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/bob-menendez-trial-new-jersey-senator-corruption-case/

I'm not seeing how these are the same thing, nor am I seeing how your original statement is definitively true.

"

LIe? No, but an exaggeration, yes. And that was not the point of my comment/question--and you know that.

"

"That alone disqualifies him from the Presidency."

Is that your opinion or does that statement have some basis in black letter law?

And how is that materially different from what politicians do all the time?

On “Class in 21st Century America

One person. One dog, several other animals.....

"

I'd say "comfortable". The amount of pay I'm aware of is @ 5 years, so it's likely she's making more now. This individual has a rowhouse in the city, travels at least once a year to visit family overseas, and is frequently "out and about" in various city locations doing stuff. She does not have a car, but really doesn't need one. She also is rather "thrifty", and a smart shopper.

"

"Lower middle class –..... Many work low-level jobs in the service economy, or they are, dare I say, teachers."

I'd think the range is greater than one bracket. I know for a fact that a certain public school teacher is middle class making over 80K in the mid Atlantic

Kabuki: Well, this American guy is planning a trip especially to Kyoto to see Noh theatre and Kabuki.

Non musical theatre. Been to quite a bit of it when I was friendly with a "professional" actor/director who did small black box versions of plays. I'd also rate is higher up than musicals, opera, and ballet.

When I got on long vacations, I bring several paper books. I think I read 4 books on the plane coming and going from my last two long international flights. Hardcopy is better.

Homicide Rap For Tesla Driver On Autopilot

https://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/crime/tesla-homicide-charge-729630

About time.
Autopilot has been clearly demonstrated as not ready for prime time. Using it and not paying attention, which pretty much removes it's utility, is hazardous to the driver and every car/bike/person around him.

Your meal plan is for the cafeteria. It does not deliver. You're free to leave to go to the cafeteria and use your meal plan to get food. You will not be allowed back in this building.

On “Dog Gone

"Or she could just be kind of an idiot."

I'd bet money on that explanation.

"

There definitely is a different from "farm country" and not farm country treatment of dogs. I spent time in both worlds, but more in the not farm country. My now ex would have raged at that type of treatment, but to her pets were family, she couldn't see the other side, not having experienced it. I'd have some trouble with it too, but I'll not disparage something like this because MY values don't allow for it. I do find it odd that this was even mentioned in the book. Why the hell would you?

On “Time is Ticking for TikTok

"“This app is a spy balloon in Americans’ phones,” said Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas). “It is a modern-day Trojan horse of the CCP used to surveil and exploit Americans’ personal information.”"

Indeed. The US can't let other countries do what they currently are doing to it's own citizens.

"“If TikTok is so dangerous,” he said, “They should show the people why.”"

If they did that, people might start thinking that if the Chinese can do it, the US could. We can't have that.

"the amount and depth and breadth of coverage of conservative viewpoints hasn’t much changed in the NPR broadcast sphere."

That statement is not my experience. I listed to NPR up until about 2022 and regularly listened to it during my hour long commute for over 25 years. I listened to them move slowly from a more neutral presentation of the news to a much more liberal position. It was obvious.

On “The Statistical Side of Immigration

That's a subcategory of "illegal immigration". I'm cool with closing that loophole. Look, we got a lot of federal employees who don't do much productive work (based upon the one I worked with in prior jobs). Repurpose those jobs.
