On “Vice Presidential Candidate Debate: Sen JD Vance vs Gov Tim Walz

I'd find it quite amusing if Vance were to come out well in this and have everyone talking positively about his performance, maybe even a bit of the 2000 VP debate outcome where people were saying Cheney should've been at the top of the ticket rather than Bush... and then have Trump get his pride hurt and try to take Vance down a peg or two.

This is not at all a prediction, I hasten to add. I'm not even watching the debate, so thanks for your running commentary.

Or maybe we’re talking about a whole other class of sins and he meant “venereal.”

Yeah that's a fair point -- all else being equal, I generally assume that a bigger tent is better for winning national elections, but I guess if you're on the winning political side, there's an interest in sharpening the distinction.

"

Well I mean, the whole point of the title is that Cheney is obviously pro-life, so why is the party more welcoming of his support than the pro-life Dems'? Not that it's difficult to answer -- the other side's defectors are always more welcome than your own side's apostates.

"

Clearly it was a mistake to include the article title in the link - it gave people the impression that they would have a relevant reaction without even reading the content.

"

Yep, not sure how many people even read the post, but it mentions that "safe, legal, and rare" is a thing of the distant past; and that 15 years ago, about 25% of the House Dem caucus was pro-life, but now that's down to a single person (Cuellar - TX). All part of the overall polarization trend I guess.

"

Interesting essay on how the Democratic Party is giving the cold shoulder to pro-life Democrats: Why is the Democratic Party’s Tent Big Enough for Dick Cheney But Not Pro-Lifers?

Ahh ok, I didn’t realize that was the older source for this. I’ll update the appropriate column in my internal database.

We have to do something; this is something -- therefore we have to do it.

On “Watch And React Live: The Harris Trump Debate

At least that’s my impression - but I’ve had my fill, will check the box score in the morning.

I don’t get the sense that he’s showing his age - if you like Trump, that’s basically what you’re getting tonight.

"

Are there any channels doing one of those “real-time reactions from undecided voters” things?

"

“Hard time dealing with having been fired” was a good line.

"

I’ll take your word for it, I’m coming in late - but he somehow got there from Jan 6

"

Totally - however she ends up doing, it’s miles past what Biden would’ve managed. It’s Trump vs normal politician again.

"

I’m gathering the Trump answer to every question is “immigration!”

"

Just got home, what’s the score?

Maybe it's just a semantic issue -- I mean, my wife is very "open" about what she'll do to me if I cheat on her. We have really good communication there.

Is it only the videos of her in particular that are disappearing? I encountered that too when I was curious to see what everyone was talking about, but I assumed it was just part of a general takedown effort for any non-sanctioned posts of Olympics content.

On “Em is on a Diet, Again

This is all extremely relatable. My wife and I talk about that "switch" all the time, although I've come to think of it more like the timer knob you turn for the hot tub to get the jets going -- the very act of turning it on starts the countdown for it to be off.

WW in the mid 2000s was my first experience with actually following a diet plan for more than a day or two, and I had a very similar reaction -- the budgeting concept was amazing, and I thought I had cracked the code and was on my way to decades of a healthy weight and a healthy relationship to food; but a year later I was already back on the upswing, and a couple years after that I was above where I had even started.

My wife and I both started Noom about a year ago -- she's still going strong, but it stopped working for me (or I guess more like I stopped working with it) by the beginning of this year, and I've gained back a third of what I lost already. The tool is good for supporting the journey you're ready to go on, but alas it doesn't control the switch for you.

On the other hand, how many people were even still there after halftime to buy them?

“How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?”

It was clever enough - if we had reaction buttons here, it would’ve been like-worthy.

Several people did try to clarify for you and you pushed back on them.

The problem is not that you're a verbal literalist, it's that you're a narcissist. Everyone else understood that BB was snarking -- why are you expecting that he should cater to your limitation specifically? That's your thing to account for when reading others' comments.
