"unsexy thing of taxing appropriately to fund education for those youths" The residents of those cities are ALREADY taxed for this...

"

"give citizens the ability to overthrow a dictator"

Assumes said individual is ALREADY in a place of power/been elected so that he could become a dictator, not state that he WOULD be a dictator. This means that the public choice/vote has not yet been exercised and determined, nor is there a violent militant group of people working to install said future dictator.

"

I agree. We need to halt all this permissive gun culture that's killing all the inner city youths who only want to sell their product on the street corner without being harassed by rival groups, most a lot of big city administrations seem ok with not prosecuting them. Wadda ya gonna do?

"

There's more:

"According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, somebody with Routh’s same full name and date of birth racked up more than a dozen criminal charges in 2001 and 2002, including for carrying a concealed weapon and hit and run.

He also picked up a particularly alarming felony in April 2002 for “possessing a weapon of mass destruction,” records show."

I only sniff indignantly at those immigrants who didn't/don't follow the law, and ended up here before those who did follow the rules could. I don't care where they came from.

On “Group Discussion: The Push For Social Media Warning Labels

I dated a woman once and she was on social media all the time. So much so, she consumed all her data on her data plan and always was asking me to google something for her or to use my phone for something she needed to do because her batter was so low and she didn't recharge it. Why? Always on facebook. I bought her a emergency batter charger she could carry in her purse. Didn't change anything. That only confirmed that SM is a massive waste of time. Hell, she was on it every day we were on vacation, posting pics and craving the likes......I'm sitting in a chair watching zebras wander by and she's checking facebook likes....

If parents don't have the capability of rationing their kids social media, nothing else will help. Of course, it's likely that mom is addicted to it as well. This won't fix that.

On “Weekend Plans Post: Greek Couscous Salad

Couscous: I recently did something similar......

I used a stove top and it was ready faster than your rice cooker. I dumped it into a bowl, added extra virgin olive oil, pieces of roasted salmon, tomatoes, oregano, roasted squash chopped up, salt and pepper. It's also good with a good salty hard cheese like asiago. YMMV

A long time ago, I was at a offsite working with the department, and during lunch, the all the guys were talking about this, and giving names of the female celebrites/actors, etc. who were on the list. I gave them my list. On the next go around, the topic changed to "who's on your wife's list". I deadpanned my response of "my list is my wife's list". It took a few minutes for the group to figure that one out :)

Hunter Biden to accept guilty verdict in tax evasion trial in Los Angeles

"Hunter Biden will accept a guilty verdict in his tax evasion case in California, his lawyer Abbe Lowell said Thursday, as jury selection was about to begin.

Lowell said President Biden's son would submit what's known as an Alford plea, meaning he would accept a guilty verdict while maintaining his innocence. Court is in recess until 2 p.m. ET while the government reviews the law on this issue. Prosecutors said this is the first they're hearing of Biden's plea. "

On “Group Discussion: Banning Social Media Influencers From Small Towns

All we need is one old guy to run out of his picturesque house carrying a double barrel shot gun shouting "get off my property" and firing off a few rounds. Problem would likely be solved.

On “Complicated Starbucks Orders Is A Language I Don’t Speak None To Good

Back in the day, when Starbucks did mail order sales of coffee, I realized that all their coffee all tasted the same to me. I was buying all kinds of exotic coffee beans. Turns out it was the roast I didn't like. I ended up buying the grocery store pre ground stuff and it's fine. Coffee is a caffeine delivery method for me.

@ Andrew, why the hell are you getting your kid's coffee? If she wants it, she can order it her self. Doesn't want to make the trip? No coffee.

On “Saturday Morning Gaming: Fallout :London

"Now, the mod pretty much takes over your Fallout 4 install. Like, you have to pick between playing Fallout 4 and Fallout: London. If you install Fallout: London, you will need to do a full uninstall of Fallout 4 and reinstall it if you ever want to play the original again. (Additionally, the game was optimized for an older version of Fallout 4, like the version from last year, and the recent updates of Fallout 4 have broken the mod so you have to install an old version of Fallout 4 and disable updates and cloud saves and only then will the game have a chance at working.)

That said, if you are comfortable with knowing that you’ll have to do a reinstall, you’re now prepared to experience something similar to New Vegas when it released… that is to say, an absolutely *AMAZING* game that will crash every 15 minutes."

Pass. Screw that.

On “Kamala Harris DNC Speech: Watch It For Yourself

I'm not intimately familiar with all the various gov't relations between the us and Israel, but assume it's complex. Depending upon how much we need them, I'd vote for a "screw it, you're on your own". position, but I don't have to get elected either.

"

Yeah, this is why I backed away from my general support of Israel several decades ago. There's no real solution. Both sides are entrenched and cannot see that the other side has some arguments worth merit, dehumanizes the opposition, etc. Israel has come full circle in some ways.

"

NPR had a whole segment last night about how there hasn't been a Muslim person address the convention in decades, and that there was a Jewish family that spoke about how their son was captured and is being held by Hamas. The entire tone of the article was "how come the jews get to speak but we can't".

I'm kinda thinking the DNC's response would be "because we couldn't trust you not to say something stupid that would cause people to vote for Trump", although that was not stated directly.

On “Weekend Plans Post: The New Grocery Store

That's some commitment. :) Enjoy the game.

"

We have several stores in the area. Wegmans, some Asian place in little Koreatown, Giant, an Aldi and I think there is a Sprouts somewhere to.

Never been to most of them. The grocery that I go to has most of what i want. I do need to roll up to the Korean grocer store when I get around to making molcejete de mariscos for some octopus.

"

Trust me they will embarrass you.

Nope, and I wouldn't. But I had a bride that didn't care about the pomp and crap. She just wanted to marry me. A private marriage on the beach followed by a nice quiet dinner was just the ticket.

In fact, after we got back, we sent out announcements that were were marred and where, and specifically asked for "no gifts". We still got some stuff but most folks had no problem with not buying us stuff, and that was cool with us.

"

Yes, technically, it was an elopement. The logistics of having a wedding, even in the states, was problematic due to where our extended family was, and the age of the grand parents. So we eloped. Best decision ever.

"

I had a "destination wedding". The now ex and I flew to an island and got married on the beach. The group consisted of the bride and groom, the photographer, the minister, and the witness (his wife). Pictures took longer than the actual ceremony. Our honeymoon was on the same island.

On “Throughput: MPox Redux Edition

Let's not forget that the bureaucratic federal administration, in particular Fauci, LIED (his admission) to the American public about the advice he gave to the public. Politicians like--that's what they do. Federal employees should NOT lie. Frankly, I consider that far worse than a politician lying.

On “Open Mic for the week of 8/12/2024

"he seems to have thought she would have left him if he said we need to scale back our lifestyle" she probably would have left him, especially if she married him after his had his wealth.

On “Trump And Harris Agree on No Tax On Tips

And the probability of tip earning employees pushing customers more and more to tip more and more (just like those domino's commercials) will likely continue and escalate.
