On “Tory Anarchism in America: An Interview with Daniel McCarthy

I am a fan of any comment which can tie The Wizard of Oz into anything personally.

On “Tangled up in Blonde

All I can say is we'll see how long that lasts. It's like saying no more vanilla icecream with your Apple pie.

On “Aggrieved libertarians

Dude. This is the 275th comment in this thread. That's bloody wonderful.

On “The Art of Letting Go

Ditto the others. This is a magnificent post - I especially like 'mere libertarianism'. More later.

On “Give Goldberg a Chance

That would be me, Rufus. It didn't belong on the sidebar...

On “Pretentious? That’s Not Pretentious. That’s Pretentious.

They pay people to surround the star and look happy. I think they must do this for every superbowl half-time show. That being said, Tom Petty the other year was great. As usual.

On “Aggrieved libertarians

Sorry, the spam filter got it.

"

I don't know - I've had plenty of critical things to say about Obama.

"

Tom - are you suggesting that nobody here has criticized Obama? For real?

On “Caricatures of libertarianism again

Jaybird and Freddie - I see you haven't missed a beat. Sigh.

On “Aggrieved libertarians

Glad to hear it. Love the Link avatar by the way.

"

Well then Tim, I suggest you read up on your Burke. These are not merely 'nice words' divorced from context or history.

"

You should up this to a full post Jason. I'd certainly like to hear more about the guaranteed income. Seems risky. Think permanent unemployment checks.

"

Sounds like we actually have quite a lot in common.

"

Forgive me but i can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.

"

That's easy: not nearly enough.

"

I think you're correct at least to some degree. To Larry's point, I think movement conservatism is the wrong lens to view these questions through as the movement is inherently ideological and reactionary - two very un-conservative qualities. I think I'm trying to find the proper balance between traditionalism, liberty, and progress which can lead to the most natural and organic society possible. I like the term Civil Societarian personally.

"

No it's not a stereotype that came from nowhere. I agree absolutely. Indeed most stereotypes have some basic truth to them. But that's exactly why I find the piece so un inspiring. I want it to go beyond the stereotypes even if they ate perfectly justified.

"

Exactly right. Besides, at some point in time all political ideas have been marginalized. Certainly liberalism wasn't taken very seriously at first by the monarchists. Just because an idea has not been fully tested does not mean it is somehow invalid or that its proponents are insincere.

On “Caricatures of libertarianism again

I was pretty much with you Mark but I think the second half of the piece invaders the first half basically meaningless. Also he doesn't focus on minarchism as a subset of libertarianism but as the end goal of all libertarians.

"

I would be content with more originality and more disdain frankly.

"

I was sheltered I guess. I don't recall learning about any of these until at least junior high.

"

I hadn't considered the poetic justice angle...

On “O Come, O Come Emmanuel

What Child is This is right up there in my top three for sure...

On “Merry Christmas to All

Merry Christmas, Mark.
