I listened to an R congressman on NPR this morning praising DJT for doing this. He said we need to get this spending under control, and I sat there thinking, "Dude, you're in the body that passed all this spending. Just pull it back! Pass a budget! It's right in the Constitution!"

Given that these are state level activities in red states, that's going to require a lot of legislating. Legislating that I'm not even sure is possible.

I once read that the U.S. could be thought of as a customs union instead of a country, and that seems truer and truer each day.

I think we *can* be certain.

My take on this is it's pretty good advice. Win first, then you can work on policy. Trying to please everyone before you get elected exposes the fringier elements in your party (at least for the Dems) who may hold some fairly unpopular opinions.

Changing people's minds takes time and winning an election or two buys you that time. People think Trump just happened. We could probably trace his origins all the way back to Goldwater if we really tried.

Worse than what we have already happening?

Power to do what?

Counterpoint: What both Biden and Trump did was perfectly legal under the Constitution. Terrible but legal. Why not demonstrate good governance, instead, by getting busy and trying a legislative solution (hint: alter the Constitution by removing or severely limiting the pardon power)?

This country is getting more absurd by the minute.

I had that same thought. They've had 4 fallow years to marinate in Truth Social nonsense and now they're bringing it to bear.

I think the root of our disagreement lies in timing. Who knew anything in Feb. 2020, which is when the lab leak accusation was beginning to take hold? People who originally did so have never allowed for another explanation, even in the fact of great uncertainty.

I'm just more irked that people, some of whom hold high elective office in this country, have been running with this lab leak thing since Feb. of 2020. Who the hell knew anything about COVID back then?

Now we're supposed to take them seriously because the CIA issues a "well they might be right but we can't say for sure, and we probably shouldn't even be saying this" mealy-mouthed statement. What a bunch of hogwash.

Why even say that? It's utterly meaningless. If you're not confident, you're just spitballing.

I'm certainly not saying it might not be true. Hell's bells, it probably was. But to definitively say so is something we'll never be able to do. Anyone doing so is just playing politics.

You can stick with your Kung Flu theory for as long as you want. As for me, I'll remain firmly in the camp of absent any concrete evidence, the plague may or may not have arisen as the result of a lab leak but we'll never know because we're dealing with a repressive government that tightly controls information, and would definitely not be cooperative with an American administration that's desperately seeking to pin the spread on anyone other than the guy in charge of it.

Anyone even attempting to make a definitive statement is spewing BS.

We'll never know, which is why no ought to be taking any of this seriously.
