I've seen some stories quoted to the effect of "he looked like a clown, he looked like he was making fun of us, he's standing there in six hundred dollars of tailored clothing and wearing an ANSI vest like it means he has any idea what we deal with", so maybe people are starting to figure out that he's just a jerk who says mean things about whoever he's looking at, not some Real American Savior who's gonna put those so-and-so f-word c-words back in their places, etcetera.
Y'all pretty quickly insisted that it was not about A Protest, it was about Their Job, so, I'm going with that. It doesn't make you look better but it seems like the argument you want to have, so that's fine; we'll do it.
"you EXPECT the doctors to commit an act that would result in them being both fired AND criminally charged with a felony to help your wife"
Right up until just now they've always told me they would, so, yes dot jpeg
But, hey, if the doctors want the deal to be "I'm just workin' here, I don't set policy, I just do what the law permits" that's fine but it also leaves me wondering why I need to consider them any more highly than an auto mechanic with a lot of training, and why there are so many regulations and laws saying that I must pay them money before I'm allowed to do anything medical to myself.
"Leaving you able to do nothing else for your wife and leaving doctors even more unwilling to treat her."
Well. She's already not being helped. And "now they'll let her go septic to punish you" is maybe not making the best case for doctors being sympathetic healing-masters regrettably constrained by Evil Republican Scum.
They're not trying to comply with the law. They are saying that when it comes down to cases, their job is more important than someone's life.
And yeah, it sucks that there's legislation saying "abortion is a crime" and making doctors have to worry about that, and the people who passed that legislation are the kind of people who skate through English class on Cliff's notes and "extra credit" and D-is-for-Diploma instead of paying attention to what the books were trying to teach them, but if my wife had a dead baby rotting inside her and the doctor started bleating about "legislation" and "his job" I would tell him that unless he gloved up and got busy he would not have to worry about his job because I would drag him out in the parking lot and step on his fingers until they were so broken that he couldn't be a doctor anymore.
2016 was when Social Justice got normie. If you were at all involved in media (versus merely being a passive consumer of it) then you were aware of this movement for a long time before then. RaceFail was 2009.
I'm also reminded of the discussion we had about "Rust" randomly assigning gender/genitalia/skin-tone to player models, and locking those assignments to the account so there was no way to change them. There was some controversy over the issue but ultimately sales of "Rust" met their targets, so it appeared that doing this was neither beneficial nor harmful to sales.
When people say "are you honestly suggesting that you'll let innocents suffer as part of a protest action against political decisions we don't like", here are some doctors saying "yes, we will".
"The “innocent” I’m referring to are the vast numbers of people who will lose out on competent, non-political government services when the non-political public servants jump or get pushed out."
Just like the Wehrmacht were defending the people of Germany from foreign aggressors, right?
Actually there's a third category which I guess I should have listed, and it actually is an argument for Trump specifically:
3) He makes the right people mad
a) there's too much Woke and he'll stop that
b) there's too much Woke and voting for him is a statement that I don't like that
c) there's too much Woke and voting for him makes those people feel bad and I think that's funny
Trump's "weird energy" was a media fabrication, and they were happy to fabricate it because Of Course He Wasn't Going To Win Or Anything. He really hasn't changed; they're just selling it differently now.
It's really useful to remember that Obama was picked by the superdelegates. The actual primary voters went for Clinton. (And I fully believe that they made a deal that she'd get their support in 2016, which is why she didn't make a huge stink at the time.)
Every argument I've heard in favor of Trump falls into these categories:
1) I'm Voting For Generic Republican, Who This Year Is Donald J Trump
a) there have recently been Problems, and Democrats were in charge, therefore it's the Democrats' fault
b) there might be Problems in the future, and Republicans are better at handling those specific Problems than Democrats
c) single-party dynastic governance is bad for the Republic, therefore the parties should take turns
2) Trump isn't gonna do any of the stuff he says
a) Congress is the group that passes laws, not the Executive, and there are plenty of Democrats to foil him
b) anything he does as an Executive can be challenged in courts, who will of course countermand him
c) the Deep State bureaucracy is responsible for actually implementing his orders and they can stymie his efforts by slow-rolling his plans or just flat refusing to work on them
And I don't think either of these is a good argument to pick Trump specifically, and the man has many reasons why he's not suitable for the job, leaving me to conclude that even if you think Generic Republican is desirable then this specific one is no good.
The "reasonable person" standard is why actions like this one didn't happen before now, because everyone assumed that both sides of the interaction were reasonable people.
If you're going to insist that anything not specifically defined in a rule is allowed and can be rammed as wide open as you can force yourself in, then "draconian" actions that "target" specific companies is what you'll get. Moles get whacked, bro. Deal with it.
" because a consequence of actually participating in a democracy, much less upholding the existing oath of your employer, should be forceful removal from that employer when the new guy takes over."
Phil, the question was whether you would resign rather than serve in a Trump Administration.
Would you ensure that the Trump Administration would suffer the consequences of losing your skills and experience?

"And how do you feel about Trump’s Tariff plan and it’s[sic] likely impact on the economy?"
The Biden administration kept most of those tariffs in place, and in fact increased many of them.
So, I guess we ought to feel about Trump's tariff plan the same way we feel about Biden's tariff plan?
