Saturday Morning Gaming: Assassin’s Creed 2: The Ezio Collection
Assassin’s Creed came out during an *AMAZING* period of video gaming. 2007 was *LOADED*. Assassin’s Creed came out on November 13th, Mass Effect came out November 20th, Rock Band came out November 20th, Super Mario Galaxy came out November 12th, Bioshock came out a few months prior in August, Portal came out October 10th…
Man! 2007 was a great year and November was a great month!
Two years later, the first sequel came out and, holy cow, it was even better. Assassin’s Creed 2 expanded on the original and gave us a better main character (Ezio), a better setting (Italy), and they refined the controls a little bit and made the whole thing smoother.
The only complaint that I have about the game at all is that its button setup is different than Batman’s.
Assassin’s Creed 3 came out and it wasn’t as good… felt a little preachy, to be honest… and then Assassin’s Creed 4 came out and they returned to the whole “fun” thing and then the storylines got really weird and convoluted and the series sort of… well, I went from buying every single one the second it came out to forgetting that they came out with one. I played Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and they included an in-game store that allowed you to buy stuff with real-life currency and I sighed and forgot about the series.
But I was wandering through Wal-Mart for their honey roasted peanuts and thought that I’d check out the game section on my way to get the snack.
AND THEY HAD ASSASSIN’S CREED 2: THE EZIO COLLECTION FOR TWENTY BUCKS.
I realized that I could just play the good parts again.
And I picked it up and got my honey roasted peanuts.
So… what are you playing?

I’ve tried to play Assassin’s Creed IV a couple times, but for some reason, it has never held my attention for long. I am not sure what it is. It seems like a game I should like, but I don’t think I have ever played more than a few hours.
I am still playing Elden Ring. Last night, I got to the Festival at Redman Castle, but it was nearly time for bed, so I stopped. If I tried the Radahn fight, I probably would have stayed up too late trying to beat him. I decided to be responsible and get to sleep at a reasonable time, but I know what I will be doing tonight.
I also played some more Riven over the weekend. I have managed to reach some areas that I have not gotten to in previous playthroughs, and I have been through all of the islands (unless there is a secret island of some sort). I am still not sure exactly what I am trying to accomplish. I have stayed away from any hints so far.Report
The boats are *FUN*. Eventually you open up trading routes and these trading routes make you money. I did the thing where I woke up 15 minutes early to set up trade routes before I left for work, so when I got home, I could set up more trade routes before bed. And the sea shanties! It was even better than the radio in GTA3!
The Radahn fight is a corker. One of my faves. (We got to the final final boss in the expansion over the weekend and calibrated our stuff to better defend against his B.S. attacks. Didn’t help.)Report
I don’t really like the passive management elements that they started adding to the omnigenre games 10-15 years ago. They’re not really developed enough to be as much fun as a full strategy game would be, so they just end up feeling like a hassle. I don’t want to do chores in a game.Report
