Weekend Plans Post: Timey Wimey
I’ve said before that I prefer the short weeks to start on a Tuesday than end on a Thursday. When your long weekend kicks off on Thursday night, it’s all “party, party, party” and then come Monday you’re exhausted. If the long weekend kicks off on Friday night, it’s just another Friday night. Then it’s Saturday. Then it’s Sunday. And then… wait, I don’t have to work tomorrow? It’s like having a snow day in the middle of the summer!
Well, I had a 5-day weekend. The day off I requested for a mental health day in the middle of August got bigfooted by a major emergency in the lab and then it was the last week of August and well… I can take Thursday off… and if I take Thursday off, I can take Friday off…
And, next thing you know, it’s a 5-day weekend! “Party, Party, Party” at my age means “we’ll be able to go to Maribou’s doctor appointment on Thursday, my dentist appointment on Friday, and we won’t have to use any sick time to do it!” Yay. Party, party, party. (Interrupted, of course, by the phone calls asking about other various emergencies in other various labs.)
At least Monday was a pleasant surprise. Like a snow day in the middle of summer.
But all that squashed together made this week a weird blur of “wait, what day is it?” and now it’s Friday morning and I feel like I need another two days to get stuff done.
Maybe next week.
This weekend will be playing catchup for all of the chores and errands that fell to the wayside due to just crashing and vegging out last weekend and then it’ll be Monday again before… no. That way madness lies; let me shun that; No more of that.
But maybe I’ll be able to get some Starfield in too.
So… what’s on your docket?

The first time I heard EPMD’s “You Gots To Chill”, was on Yo, MTv Raps back in the 80’s. This was before I was familiar with either Zapp’s “More Bounce to the Ounce” or Kool and the Gang’s “Jungle Boogie”.
In 1994, Pulp Fiction was released and that was the first time I ever really listened to “Jungle Boogie”.
Side note: Dick Dale’s version of “Misirlou” was also on that soundtrack and mom was walking through the room when the TV was playing that song and she immediately made me pause the movie and she yelled at me about how that song was playing at one of the dances she had to chaperone back when she was a teacher and IT WAS SO LOUD that she couldn’t breathe because it vibrated EVERYTHING and taking a deep breath would make her feel dizzy.
And it wasn’t until the YouTube era that I sat down and actually searched out the other song that got sampled heavily in “You Gots To Chill” and, the first time I listened to it, I was sure it was a novelty song. After a few more times listening to it, I understand that… no. It is its own genre.
