    “Big” grocery shopping.

That means crossing a river and the state line to go to a town more prosperous (and with laxer liquor-selling laws, which has an effect on what groceries will come to an area) than mine to buy some brands/food items I can’t find locally.

It’s kind of sad when I contemplate how in the “before times” I thought nothing of this – there were times when I did this weekly – but now it’s a BIG journey and it feels like I’m going somewhere really far away. Granted, that’s not entirely the pandemic’s fault; there’s been horrific construction on the interstate I take to get there since early 2020 and it is probably going to continue forever at this rate.

I might go to the big antiques mall first – one I’ve not been in since 2019 – to see what they have. I don’t NEED anything but it’s still fun to look at other people’s old stuff. And who knows, there might be an interesting vintage cookbook or maybe someone’s disposing of their grandma’s knitting needles….Report

The first trip to Whole Foods after the vaccine was like a trip to Disneyworld. Granted, I only had to drive 10 miles or so to get there rather than cross water, but after a year of staying inside and worrying about whether the guy riding his bike got too close to me while I was jogging, it was downright transgressive.

I hope the journey is fun and exciting rather than a chore.Report

I’m recovering from COVID. My wife got it, probably at work, and I got it from her. Nowhere near as bad as my first case (but my wife got hit hard this time, while her first case was pretty mild). As a result, we do not have much planned for the weekend. Though we have passed the worst of our symptoms, we are still super fatigued, and I have some lingering bronchitis.
I was supposed to go to a board game meetup, but I think that would be irresponsible. We might watch the 2018 Halloween. I want to get through the new trilogy this month. There’s some piled up laundry and some house cleaning that we might get to as able, but I’m not expecting a lot.Report

    • Ugh, bummer. Good luck. How many days were the worst of the symptoms?Report

For my wife, probably 3-4 days. She has fever and chills for a day or 2, sore throat was bad, and her nose was stopped up. The usual fatigue and muddled brain as well.

It was maybe 2-3 days for me. Based on my previous experience, I was expecting every day to be worse than the day before, but thankfully it wasn’t. I had a minor sore throat and a little bit of a cough, but my main symptom has been fatigue. If I rested for a little while, I would feel pretty good and overestimate my resources. Then I would get up and do something like reheat leftovers for lunch and feel like I ran a 5K. It’s not as bad now, but I’m still tired.Report

Football tonight, gonna be a chilly one.

Golfing at Deere Run this weekend with my brother. Really looking forward to losing a few balls out there. It’s a great TPC value if you’re looking for a nice, challenging course to play.

I’ll turn 59 on Sunday, so it might be hookers and cocaine.Report

It is my wife’s birthday tonight. Our son is staying with my parents so we can have a nice dinner date and hang out with some friends in town from overseas. Tomorrow is recovery and swim lessons. Sunday is a late trip to go get pumpkins and maybe pick apples. Possibly a hayride for good measure. I can hardly contain myself.Report
