    1. Dang, not sure what I’m seeing, but if that’s actual unaltered footage… that’s a decent sized squad. I counted 13 plus three vehicles just through that tiny break.

I have no idea what motivates Haitian politics; so no speculation on that front. It seems that the succession to the VP has not been impinged… so unless it’s the VP leading it, doesn’t appear to be a coup.

The DEA stuff is an interesting twist… I doubt it’s the DEA but no idea on who or why they’d use it as a prop.Report

      1. Oh, yeah. I am not trying to say “these guys are obviously the DEA!”

One thing I’ve always been curious about in domestic inter-gang disputes is why there aren’t more people pretending to be police serving a no-knock raid.

Well, I’m not surprised to see bad actors here pretending to be the DEA.Report

I wouldn’t be surprised if that happens a lot more than we hear about. I doubt gang members are going to be terribly forthcoming that they got duped, and the police have zero desire to raise public awareness that such things happen.Report

      2. The Prime Minister who succeeds him was fired and to be replaced a few hours before the assassination but he’s the one who has taken over, while he replacement claims to be the rightful president. Also there’s no parliament because the dead president dissolved it and no scheduled elections so the government is being run by decree at this point.Report

  1. “That’s a conspiracy theory!”, when said, sounds like it’s disagreeing.

But, you know, it’s not. Not really.

    1. Since there were multiple participants in the assassination and they worked together in order to effect a common plan, this was a textbook conspiracy. One of these days we may have solid information on who the conspirators were and with whom they conspired. We don’t yet. It’s entirely possible that some of them were former US law enforcement or military. Those are prime sources for mercenaries and killers for hire. Beyond that, well, it would be irresponsible not to speculate.Report

        1. The fact that some of these men were federal informants could be proof of U.S. government involvement or it could just be an illustration of how ubiquitous the use of criminal informants is in law enforcement.

Whitey Bulger was a federal informant, but we would not say that the FBI was secretly running the Irish mob in Boston.Report

          1. Yes. We would *NOT* say that. Indeed, we would even say that people who argue that the FBI merely participated in its direction would be engaging in a conspiracy theory.Report
