Em was one of those argumentative children who was sarcastically encouraged to become a lawyer, so she did. She is a proud life-long West Virginian, and, paradoxically, a liberal. In addition to writing about society, politics and culture, she enjoys cooking, podcasts, reading, and pretending to be a runner. She will correct your grammar. You can find her on Twitter.

This is definitely worth a listen. By far the most interesting part was the end, where he talked about West Virginia’s vaccination program and the (kind of unfortunate) elements that made it possible. He also touches on why it seems to be that a lot of the smaller states have had better vaccination distribution. In a smaller state, you’re more likely to know the important people in the pharmacy world and perhaps have a better handle on the more manageably sized bureaucracy. What’s true in West Virginia may be somewhat true in the Dakotas as well (where governors that haven’t taken it seriously have made more progress faster than bit states with governors that have)

I also found the part about Governor Justice interesting, and how he rose to the occasion. I was not really a fan, but I have liked the way he’s handled this. He was quicker to shut things down than Hogan was (by a day or so, but still) and has taken it seriously every step of the way. Most Republican governors have pissed me off by not taking it seriously enough, and most Democrats by being way too aggressive in closing the schools, but he’s walked the line pretty well. Not perfectly, of course, but everyone is winging it. In any event. I wish more Republican governors approached this as he has.Report
