For those keeping score…
In those parts of the country that skew Tea Party, disenfranchising thousands (or more) African American and Latino voters to protect against “voter fraud” is sadly necessary, because even if statistically speaking it never actually happens, it’s the principle of the thing, damn it!
And if three white, upstanding Tea Party operatives get caught in the government building that houses the ballots after hours on election day — almost three hours after the building closed, because they “accidentally locked themselves in” — and were caught by the police with conflicting (not to mention untrue) stories about how they got there, and one of the three was an operative who had already been linked to an illegal and creepy invasion of privacy with an elderly Alzheimer’s patient to get dirt on their opponent, well, hey…
Mistakes happen, amiright? Nothing to see here. No harm, no foul. I mean, it’s not like any of the three caught were black or anything.
I wish this has happened in Alabama instead of Mississippi, because I so would have sent in a $1,000 reward claim to the GOP when this story broke.
The teaser for this post reads:

Does this piece have a point or it is just another one of your republican hit pieces? Are you making an allegation of vote fraud or are your just trying to insinuate general criminality? Are you actually admitting that voter fraud does happen when you say, “statistically it never happens” because before many liberals here seemed to say that it never happened at all?Report
It does have a point, and it’s really more one of my tea party hit pieces.
Am I making an allegation that voter fraud occurred? No, it seems obvious that due to the way things were locked down in the government building, voter fraud in this instance could not have happened. I am making an allegation that voter fraud was attempted.
As for the rest, if there is anyone that denies voter fraud never happens, I have yet to meet them. I have certainly never seen anyone say that here. (Which isn’t to say no one’s ever said it, I just don’t remember it.)
Now, I have seen people point out that the single type of voter fraud targeted by the GOP — voting with false IDs — is one of the least statistically occurring kinds of voter fraud, disenfranchises hundreds of thousands despite the fact there have only been a handful of cases over the past decade; and I’ve seen people point out that certain GOP operatives are pretty blunt that they only reason they pursue this type is because it does disenfranchise minorities, the poor, and other groups that vote overwhelmingly Democratic.
But I’ve never seen anyone say voter fraud never occurs.Report
Two comments…1) BSDI (point in fact, the state where I live in has had several cases, and it’s majority demo) 2) I think the example just provides more reason that the “stupid party” is indeed the stupid party. Sheesh, 3 folks can’t plan a decent bit of election year fraud? They don’t deserve elected office they were trying to fraud their way in. And if they were employees of a campaign, the cannidate didn’t do a good enough job screening idiots who can’t commit fraud!Report
