Weekend Plans Post: The High School Reunion (Invite Version)
I got the invite. “Hey, Jaybird! It’s time for your 30 year High School Reunion!”
Hoo boy. That can’t be right. But then I checked my brain. Yep. Class of 1991. I remember walking through Grand Central Station in… 1985? and seeing a billboard up on the wall that had a bunch of toddlers and it said “Mrs. Johnson’s Class of 2000.”
That’s so far away!, I thought.
And here we are.
Anyway, they sent out a survey and said “how do we want to do this thing?” and they had everything from “Traditional Reunion!” to “Zoom Chat!”
My vote was for “set something up in the park on a Saturday afternoon, have 2-liters of pop available, just tell everybody to show up and mill about between the hours of Noon and 4PM.”
Because I *MIGHT* be interested in walking around and saying howdy to people I haven’t seen since Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was in theaters but I have absolutely no desire to stand in a gym and listen to Ice, Ice Baby.
Now, I took this poll back before I got my first shot so who knows? Maybe my opinion will change after I get my second shot (scheduled for this Saturday!) and I find myself saying “Yes! I want to stand in a gym and have 30 people ask me where my hair went!”
(“Away.”)
So, this weekend is The Second Shot and we’ll see how it changes my mind about standing around people that are not Maribou. Half of me thinks that I’ll be screaming “I WANNA DRINK FROM THE FIREHOSE” and the other half thinks “Meh. I didn’t go to the Ten Year or the Twenty Year… why would I go to the Thirty Year?”
Even if, inside my head, there’s a little voice saying that it’s time for the Twenty Year Reunion to roll around and, maybe, I might want to go to that.
In any case, the plans revolving around the Second Shot include: Getting the Second Shot.
And that’s *IT*. Laundry? Get it done on Friday night or plan on not getting it done that weekend. Wanna take care of the garbage? Do it on Friday night or plan on maybe doing it on Monday. Groceries? Ha! We’re ordering Pizza or something equally simple on Friday night and then just not thinking about it until Monday. I’ve heard a lot more horror stories about the Second Shot than boring ones and so the plans involve fuzzy pants, fuzzy sweatshirts, and sitting in the basement.
Luckily, I’ve been practicing.
So… what’s on your docket?

I remember my 10 or 15 year high school year. Got a letter inviting me to “meet down at the river”. That was a thing back in high school. It wasn’t an officially sanctioned reunion. Hmm…fly across the country and then drive 2 hours to meet a bunch of people I’d not seen in so long, dragging my girlfriend to meet some of the girls I tried to sleep with 10 years ago? Yah, fun!
But on the better things. Our party has destroyed the Lich’s soul jar…..now to escape and slay the dragons at the well of souls….then reitire.Report
Never been to a HS reunion. Got very few reasons to travel back home, and a reunion doesn’t hit the mark.
This weekend I am putting a roof over my patio. Got the main beam up last weekend, putting the rest up this weekend.Report
OK, got the rafters up and started on the purlins. Also got all the SunTuf cut. Will finish it in steps over the week.Report
Nothing exciting planned for this weekend. Need to take the dogs to the vet for their annual visit and mow the lawn. Other than that, it’s pretty open. I might try to watch the Snyder Cut, or I might save that for another weekend. It’s a long movie.
I got my first shot the previous week. I didn’t feel too bad, but I was super sleepy, like I had taken Benadryl.Report
I’ve heard only one story where someone got hit harder by the first shot. Has anyone else heard one like that?Report
I moved far away from my high school and it’s not worth going back. Also, the few people I would care about seeing are the sort who wouldn’t go back for a reunion. And most of the faculty I knew and cared about are dead now. Hell of a thing getting old. (This year would be the 34th). I don’t think they’re planning a Zoom reunion. I am not even sure I’d do that. (I am awf’y sick of Zoom at this point)
No plans this weekend; the bright lights in my state’s DOT and the DOT of the state just south of me decided NOW was the time to tear up literally every street and bridge between me and places I might want to be. So here I am with immunity I can’t even use because you can’t get there from here.
I plan to sleep a lot this weekend; for some reason I have been exhausted this week. I think it’s the usual end-of-semester stuff with the added load of realizing I don’t even REMEMBER most of 2020 because I was doing nothing worthy of laying down memories of. (The other day I said to someone ‘when my dad died last year” and I had to stop and correct myself and say ‘no that was in 2019’)Report
Hm. Discovered there’s a “Discount Grocery” that also apparently sells Amish foods about 35 miles north of me, on a small highway that does not have construction; am contemplating making a morning run up there tomorrow.
I feel like I need to do these things – I call it “rat cage enrichment” – so my brain doesn’t just totally shut down from doing the same thing day in and day out
I would shop at more different groceries except we haven’t many. Walmart has kind of pushed the smaller places out, or the smaller places that remain are really not that worth going to because they have so little choiceReport
Currently sitting #52,118 in the queue for Path of Exile 3.14 league… most of my work, work is done… almost time to get to work on my Arc league starter build and see what the gods of ‘Ultimatum’ drop.
Weekend is supposed to be 50’s and overcast… boo… was hoping to sit outside a bit… will have to settle for pasture/woods work.
Speaking of reunions, we did finish planning a trip to visit my folks in FL in August… and it looks like the other siblings will all be able to join for a weekend… we’re all getting adjacent VRBO condo’s on the beach. So we’ve got that to look forward to. And just to spite twitter, I’ve booked travel by TRAIN. TRAIN I tell you!Report
GOT THE SECOND SHOT!
Got bagels on the way home.
Pizza is ordered.
Time to run out of gas.Report
