A Minnesota state representative and her husband were shot and killed, and a state senator and his wife were shot and wounded in an “act of targeted political violence” at their homes early Saturday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said.
A manhunt is now underway for the gunman who was impersonating a police officer, authorities said.
Officials said Brooklyn Park police arrived at Hortman’s home around 3:35 a.m. and found a police SUV with emergency lights on. The suspect then exited Hortman’s home and exchanged gunfire with officers before fleeing on foot.
There was an extensive list of possible targets among writings found in Boelter’s vehicle. The list included more than 50 individuals including officials outside of Minnesota, and including abortion rights advocates and abortion facilities.
There were also fliers in his car referencing a “No Kings” rally. Following the shootings, officials canceled all “No Kings” protests that had been planned in the state for Saturday.
Praetorian Guard Security Services LLC has Vance listed as “Director of Security Patrols”.
Page 202 of the Fiscal Year 2020 Annual Compilation and Statistical Report of Multi-Member Agencies has Vance listed as an appointee to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board.
The State of Minnesota’s Official Document Website has Mark Dayton’s appointment letter for Vance’s appointment to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council.
There’s a tweet of one of his roommates reading one of his last texts.
My thought on that is “Roommates? I thought he was married…” and that makes me wonder about divorce/separation.
He, apparently, had a manifesto. The authorities will not be releasing it.
This one has a link to a local news segment:
It looks like he was caught.
It looks like charges have been filed.
It looks like bail has been set at $5 million.
The charges include a couple of counts of 2nd degree murder with intent-not premeditated.
From what I understand, this is just *INITIAL* charges. They always start with the charges that they’re 100% likely to succeed at until a grand jury is convened.
Also, as I understand it from social-media posts, in Minnesota the police can’t charge someone with first-degree murder; that only happens after a Grand Jury is convened. Like, this is not The Cops Trying To Go Easy On A Buddy; they’re at the highest point they’re legally permitted to go!
I’m glad they caught the guy instead of killing him (or finding him dead) because I really want to know what was up with all those “NO KINGS” fliers they found in his car.
