Weekend Plans Post: The Belated Birthday Party

One of my buddies turned 40 four or five months ago. We're celebrating this weekend.
Jaybird February 9, 2023

I have a friend who turned 40 last year. His wife asked him “do you want to do anything big? Do you want to have a party?” and he said, grumpily, “No.” They went out to dinner to a steakhouse and that was that.

Then, when I spent a week at my bud’s house, he came over for one of those days and we just hung out on the couch talking smack and eating pizza and playing Elden Ring on the PS5 and, at the end of all that, he went home and told his wife “I figured out what I want to do for my birthday party. I want to have a day just like this one.”

Well, with work and crunch schedules and various “life happening” issues, it took weeks for everybody’s schedule to align and THIS WEEKEND IS THE BIRTHDAY PARTY.

We will hang out on the couch talking smack and eating and playing the PS5. They have approximately 5 electric guitars between the two of them and so we’re going to jam out as well. They assured me that they’ll tune my guitar to something called “Drop D” and so they’ll have me do some power chords.

We asked my buddy if there was anything in particular he wanted us to cook for him and he said something about not wanting to make a fuss and picking up a pizza and we assured him: “We love to cook and we love to show off. What do you want us to make?”

So we’re making Chicken Tiki Masala and we have been given the go ahead to make it spicy. So *TONIGHT* is going to be spent going to the grocery store to get the ingredients.

I was also told that we are going to be frying up some pepper bacon and then frying halloumi cheese in the bacon grease for snacking tomorrow.

Then a game night on Saturday and, with luck, NOTHING on Sunday. Whew. That’ll be nice.

So… what’s on your docket?
